Everything we know about the May Community Day in Pokemon GO, featuring Alolan Geodude!

Hot on the heels of Stufful Community Day, Niantic has announced the newest Pokemon GO Community Day. The event is set to happen in May and features the fan-favorite Pokemon, Alolan Geodude!

Here’s everything we know about the Community Day, including special bonuses, new moves, and much more! Let’s GO!

Alolan Geodude Community Day: Everything We Know So Far

An Alolan Geodude sits on a rock.

The Alolan Geodude Community Day is set to run on Saturday 21 May, from 11 AM to 2 PM local time.

Similar to the recent Stufful and Mudkip Community Days, the event is set to run for three hours. This decision has divided some players, with some players preferring the old-style 6-hour Community Days.

However, there are lots of bonuses this time around to make the three Community Day hours worthwhile. Let’s dive into what bonuses are featured!

Community Day Bonuses

As with every Pokemon GO Community Day, there are lots of bonuses to encourage players to take part. Here are all the bonuses that we know of!

  • Alolan Geodude will be spawning more frequently in the wild
    • If you’re lucky, you may catch a shiny Pokemon!
  • 3x Stardust for catching Pokemon
  • 2x Candy for catching Pokemon
  • 2x chance to receive Geodude XL Candy from catching Alolan Geodude
  • Insence activated during the event will last for three hours
  • Lure Modules activated during the event will last for three hours
  • 5 guaranteed encounters with Alolan Geodude through snapshots
  • One additional special trade can be made during the event and up to two hours after, for a maximum for two special trades per day

Alolan Geodude Community Day New Attack

As with most Community Day events, the Alolan Geodude event is introducing a new move to Pokemon GO. The featured attack this time around is Rollout!

Rollout is a powerful Fast Move. To learn it evolve your Alolan Geodude into Graveler, and then into Golem. Your Alolan Golem will then know Rollout as its Fast Move!

All Alolan Golem caught or evolved during the event duration, or up to two hours after, will learn Rollout as their charge move. This powerful attack is set to generate lots of energy in battles, making it an excellent option for Alolan Golem!

Here are the stats for the new move Rollout:

  • Type: Rock
  • Trainer Battles: 4 Power
  • Gyms and Raids: 14 Power

Special Research Story and Ticket Gifts

Players will be able to access the special Alolan Geodude Community Day exclusive Research Story – A Rocky Road – by paying $1 (USD) or the equivalent in their local currency

A new feature introduced with this Community Day is the option to gift a ticket for Alolan Geodude Special Research to a friend! Trainers will be able to click “Gift” instead of “Buy”, and send this ticket on to a friend.

Niantic has promised to release more details on this feature soon, so stay tuned!

Event Bundles and Stickers

A notebook sits open, showing four stickers. Each of the stickers feature an Alolan Geodude. One shows it emerging from a cave surrounded by love hearts, one shows it putting a "Best Buddy" sticker on itself, one shows it punching an Alolan Golem, another shows three Alolan Geodudes dancing on top of an Alolan Graveler.

There’ll be a special one-time-purchase Community Day Box available for 975 PokéCoins, featuring one Super Incubator, one Lucky Egg, one Elite Fast TM, and one Star Piece.

Furthermore, there’ll also be a bundle containing 30 Ultra Balls available in the shop at no cost. Be sure to pick it up during the event!

As with most community days, there are some cute new stickers available, all featuring Alolan Geodude. You can obtain these stickers through the following methods:

  • Spinning PokeStops
  • Opening gifts
  • Purchasing them through the in-game shop

We can’t wait for this Community Day – Geodude is one of this writer’s favorite Pokemon! Let’s hope it’s an improvement on the disappointing Mudkip Community Day!

Disappointing Mudkip Community Day?!? That was one of my favorites. Swampert has a great shiny, it's a useful water attacker, and will eventually have a mega form.
