As approach the sixth anniversary of the PS4 console, all eyes are focused on the next major piece of equipment Sony will deliver. When is the PS5 coming out, you may ask? Sony is yet to confirm the PlayStation 5 release date, or even a rough time period for that matter. However, with a little critical thought and taking into account tradition, we can receive a rough idea.
What is the PS5 Release Date?
Although Sony hasn’t confirmed a date, in an exclusive interview with The Wired, where the first official details of the console emerged, Mark Cerny confirmed that the PS5 would not be released in 2019. It’s fair to say most fans knew the console wouldn’t be slated for launch later this year, however.
In addition to this, the company also confirmed that the next-gen console won’t be launch over the next 12 months. This means that any time prior to May 2020 is out the question.
So the big question, when is the PS5 console releasing? Based on the pattern of prior consoles, research, and analysts’ predictions, our money is on the PlayStation 5 launching in November 2020.
Once again, we stress that this is merely a prediction and is not confirmed as of yet. Sony is yet to provide comment on the matter and most likely won’t until early next year.

- PS1: Saturday, December 3, 1994
- PS2: Saturday, March 4, 2000
- PS3: Saturday, November 11, 2006
- PS4: Friday, November 15, 2013
- PS4 Pro: Thursday, November 10, 2016
It appears as though between the release of each mainline console, there is usually a time period of roughly six/seven years. Seven years since the PS4 launched would be November 2020.
In addition to this, as of late it seems as if most consoles have arrived in November. We don’t see why the PlayStation 5 will be any different.
The PS5 release date appears to be touted to launch at least by November 2020, if recent predictions from the experts are anything to go by.
Alongside this, another theory from Ace Research Institute analyst Hideki Yasuda has also predicted November 2020 as the PS5 release date. Of course, analysts’ words shouldn’t be taken as
What Do Rumors Suggest?
The prospect of the PS5 release date in November 2020 seems to be quite a reoccurring theme. In addition to tradition and what analysts believe, rumors also seem to hint at the release window.
One of the most recent rumors, which certainly caught the attention of many, was a PasteBin post which surfaced back towards the end of 2018.
Although an anonymous
The post claims that the PlayStation 5 will be released in either March 2020 or November 2020. At the time, back in December 2018, it wasn’t fully finalized apparently. While March seems out of the window, November appears to be the only remaining option.
Xbox Scarlett Release Date
Microsoft has recently confirmed at E3 2019 that their next-generation console is slated to arrive in the holiday season of 2020. For those unaware, the holiday season begins in late November and ends in early January.
Although it’s not confirmed, it’s likely Microsoft will follow suit from previous generations and release the Xbox Scarlett in the month of November. Sony will be wanting to match this or launch the PS5 just before, presumably.
When do you think the PS5 is coming out? What’s your release date prediction?
