June 2018 PS Plus Games
In years gone, we’ve often seen small indy titles or games that have not aged too well, but for the June 2018 PS Plus line up, every game has been successful in its own right. The free package for all PS Plus members is also reported to be valued at £60.98. So even after the monthly PS plus fee, all players are getting a whole host of games at a ridiculously competitive price. The two main titles this month on PS4 include XCOM 2 and Trials Fusion.
The first game announced is XCOM 2. The predecessor of the highly successful XCOM: Enemy Unknown, which won the VGX Best PC game in 2012 and the Bafta Games Award for Strategy in 2013.
Xcom 2 is developed and published by Firaxis Games and Feral Interactive and runs on Epics Unreal Engine. Firaxis Games, a subsidiary of 2K games, has helped to develop the Sid Meier’s Civilization Games since 1997 and was founded in 1996 in Baltimore, Maryland. Feral Interactive, Xcom 2’s publishers were also founded in 1996 but in London, UK. Both of these gaming giants, have helped to mould and dominate the PC gaming scene for over 20 years and have effortlessly helped to crossover to multiple console platforms, by optimising their titles.
XCOM 2 is a single player, turn-based tactics/strategy game, in which players have to control a squad whilst defeating the enemy alien forces. Between each mission, players can also upgrade their weapons, character and research facilities to further help improve their combat and attack power. This last-ditch attempt to thwart the evil forces see you form part of the XCOM Council.
This top-down, birds-eye genre seems to be a go-to when developing sci-fi strategy titles. Reminiscent to the popular Alienation, the levels are clinical and moody, with a wide view area gently boarded with an unintrusive HUD (Heads Up Display). XCOM 2 is a great addition to sci-fi nerds or gamers who enjoy delving into unearthly conflict.
The next title, part of the June 2018 PS Plus games, is Trials Fusion. A game which multiple content creators and live-streamers have covered over the last 4 years since its release. Developed and Published by Ubisoft with the help of RedLynx, Trials Fusions is a game which many players are super hyped about.
Trials Fusion is a platform racing video game and follows on from the super successful Trials Evolution. The objective is to be the first one to reach the finish line whilst clearing huge gaps, flipping over obstacles and climbing almost verticle surfaces. In concept, it may seem simple, but I remember back as early as 2000, everyone was addicted to the browser versions of this Trials series on Miniclip and Kongregate. Simple movements of forwards, backwards, accelerate and reverse meant players could truly focus on speed, skill and precision.
We’ve come a long way since the Java browser games almost 20 years ago, with Trials Fusion being the first in the series to make its way onto the PS4. This game also creates a perfect multiplayer experience by allowing up to 8 people to go head to head across a vast selection of varying levels. An arcade style perfectly complements the visually appealing word, as players will speed to victory across countless maps. An additional draw to this game is the enticing 2.5 D graphics, which simply means its a 2D platformer game but with multi-dimensional objects and environments, resulting in an almost pseudo-3D experience.
Obtaining an 8/10 average from most leading games sites/magazines, Trials Fusion caters to all players. A perfect median for players of all abilities, those who want a quick solo race or groups of mates who have something to prove, it’s all here.
