After reports of terrible performance on last-gen consoles, both PlayStation and Xbox are offering refunds for Cyberpunk 2077.
The highly-anticipated launch of Cyberpunk 2077 has been going anything but smoothly. The futuristic title by CD Projekt is getting positive reviews, but Cyberpunk 2077 is basically unplayable on PS4 and Xbox One.
As a consequence, it appears that both PlayStation and Xbox users are being offered refunds. It's worth pointing out that this is something that's notoriously infrequent for digital titles on console.
According to a series of posts on social media, PlayStation is making history by offering refunds on digital copies of Cyberpunk 2077. Xbox is also allowing gamers to get a refund on the recent title, and reports indicate that requests are being approved in as little as 5 minutes.
How to Get a Refund for Cyberpunk 2077
From what we can tell from online users, PlayStation is offering exceptional refunds to Cyberpunk 2077 owners. Although the company policy only allows for refunds on pre-ordered content that is yet to be played, it appears that the buggy nature of Cyberpunk 2077 is allowing for exceptions to the rule.
By calling up PlayStation support and mentioning that the game is crashing and not allowing for progression, players are finding Sony more than willing to offer refunds for Cyberpunk 2077.
Some players report that they played for around 10 hours and still managed to get a refund for their game. What's more, one Reddit user even mentions that his Sony representative mentioned that the company is issuing a formal complaint to CD Projekt Red.
It'll be interesting to see how this story plays out in the future. For now, CD Projekt is already releasing new Cyberpunk 2077 fix patches.
The company has a long way to go before the game is ready. For all those playing on PS5, there's a free Cyberpunk 2077 next-gen upgrade coming, but is it worth waiting for?
It seems that Xbox is just as willing to refund Cyberpunk 2077 players as PlayStation is. By heading to the company's website, players can leave a refund request that quickly leads to compensation.
Simply head to your Microsoft account on Xbox.com and go to Order History. From here, select Order Help, Get Help With Your Microsoft Store Purchases, and Contact Us.
Then type "refund recent purchase" when connecting with a virtual agent. You'll be able to select Cyberpunk, and answer a series of questions.
Mention that the game is buggy with slow performance, and you'll apparently get a refund in record time. In fact, Reddit user LOOTENITDAYAN mentions that their refund took 5 minutes to come through.
While CD Projekt is sure to be working on fixes rapidly, it's clear that the game shouldn't have released in this state. As such, the Cyberpunk 2077 developer's stock prices are falling substantially.
Given that Cyberpunk 2077 is set to receive a standalone multiplayer mode in 2022, we'd imagine the game will be flawless by this point. However, right now, it feels like the title needs delaying until 2022 and releasing as a full package.
