Sony Reveals New PlayStation Plus Subscriber Count for Q1 2021

Sony is revealing just how many subscribers its PlayStation Plus service has in 2021 so far.

If you’re a gamer and a Sony fan, chances are you have a PlayStation. And if you have a PS4 or PS5, you’re likely a PS Plus subscriber too.

A lot of gamers probably pay their PlayStation Plus subscription each month without really thinking about it. After all, the service is needed to take your gameplay online, get exclusive discounts, and get yourself some free games.

It’s clear that Sony is capitalizing on what it’s got here. And with millions of subscribers paying each month, the company has a great source of revenue to hand.

But how many people are currently using the PlayStation Plus service?

PS Plus Total Subscriber Count – March 2021

Now, in a recent corporate stregy meeting, Sony has revealed its PS Plus total subscriber count, as of March 2021.

Showing excellent growth year-over-year, Sony announces that it now has over 47.6 million users on the PS Plus service. Comparing that to the insane number of Xbox Game Pass subscribers is certainly very telling.

In March 2020, there were 41.5 million active PlayStation Plus subscribers. With that in mind, the company has seen a substantial increase since the launch of the PS5.

However, the number hasn’t grown as much as you’d think after a new console launch. We predict this is due to two factors.

Firstly, many PS5 owners will have come from the PS4, therefore preventing the need for a new PS Plus subscription. And second of all, the severe stock shortage for the PS5 is still very much ongoing.

Thankfully, PS5 stock issues will soon be over, according to Sony Boss Jim Ryan! And there’s even a new major PS5 restock dropping today to help the issue.

In the same conference, Sony also revealed big plans to bring first-party PlayStation franchises to mobile devices!

Currently, the PS5 is still crushing the Xbox Series X/S in overall sales, however. And with these 25 new first-party PS5 games on the way, it definitely pays to be a Sony fan!
