Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will require a permanent online connection, but does that mean you’ll need PlayStation Plus or Game Pass Core (Xbox Live) to play it?

Black Ops 6 is the long-awaited follow-up to 2020’s Black Ops Cold War, and Treyarch fans can’t wait to get their hands on this year’s addition to the Call of Duty franchise.

For the first time ever, Activision will be dropping a brand-new COD title day one on Xbox Game Pass, which is sure to bring in more players than ever before.

But do you need any sort of online subscription in order to play Black Ops 6 when it launches on October 25, 2024?

Do You Need PlayStation Plus to Play Black Ops 6?

You will not need a PlayStation Plus subscription to play the Black Ops 6 Campaign, however a paid membership will be required for the game’s Multiplayer modes.

It is currently unclear whether or not this includes Zombies, or if the undead survival mode can be played offline.

Treyarch’s Cold War Zombies did allow users to access private lobbies without a PS Plus connection. However, it did not save any progress or allow players to level up their weapons.

Regardless of whether or not you have a PS Plus subscription, you will need a continuous internet connection to play any game mode in Black Ops 6.

This is due to the game’s use of texture streaming to improve the title’s visual fidelity.

Do You Need Game Pass Core to Play Black Ops 6?

No, you do not need a Game Pass Core (previously Xbox Live) subscription to play Black Ops 6, however you’ll be restricted in what game modes you can access.

The Black Ops 6 Campaign is confirmed not to require Game Pass Core. However, Multiplayer will require all players to have a paid subscription.

Currently, Activision has not revealed whether or not Zombies can be played offline.

Whether you have a Game Pass Core subscription or not, you will need a continuous internet connection to play Black Ops 6.

But given the fact that Black Ops 6 will be coming to Game Pass on day one, and online is included in the higher tiers anyway, those who subscribe to play the new Call of Duty won’t have to worry.

As usual, PC players will not require a subscription service to play Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 online.
