It’s finally time for Sony to show us what it’s got in store for us, with an official PlayStation State of Play event.
E3 2021 has come and gone, with a lot of great reveals and new gameplay trailers dropping at the event. But one publisher was notably absent from the show, as it has been for the last few years.
In recent history, PlayStation has been drifting away from the annual gaming showcase, instead preferring to host its own Summer reveals. And last year’s showcase contained some of the biggest reveals in years.
Taking a look at the PS5 showcase in 2020, we saw the likes of Final Fantasy 16, Resident Evil Village, Black Ops Cold War, Miles Morales, Hogwarts Legacy, and God of War Ragnarok get new trailers. What’s more, we finally got a look at the PS5 itself, only hours before pre-orders would go live.
Despite it now being 8 months since the launch of the PS5, next-gen consoles are still hard to come by. If you’re still looking, check out these lightning-fast stock trackers to secure yourself a PS5 of your very own!

PlayStation Deathloop State of Play – July 8
Finally, after weeks of waiting, we have a date for the next PlayStation showcase: July 8.
According to PlayStation’s official blog, the upcoming State of Play will focus on Deathloop, as well lots of upcoming indie and third-party titles.
In total, expect a 30-minute presentation, with a 9-minute look at Deathloop, and an insight into what’s to come in the future of gaming.
“This showcase will not include updates on the next God of War, Horizon Forbidden West or the next generation of PlayStation VR. Stay tuned throughout the summer though, as we’ll have more updates soon.”
The show kicks off at 2pm Pacific / 5pm Eastern / 11pm CEST, viewable on Twitch or YouTube
Interestingly, it’s looking as though Deathloop could be the final Bethesda game coming to PlayStation, if reports are accurate!

PlayStation Experience Summer Showcase Coming Soon?
And while this isn’t the Summer showcase we’ve been waiting for, it’s still nice to hear more about what’s coming to PlayStation devices.
Already, a lot of PlayStation’s biggest reveals have dropped early. In the last few weeks, we’ve seen PlayStation Studios acquire Housemarque, and a second acquisition reveals that more PC ports are coming for Sony’s games!
But there’s one further developer joining the PlayStation team that’s leaking ahead of this year’s showcase! And it’s a big one.
Already, a next-gen Ghost of Tsushima title is dropping, complete with a new expansion. And with a reveal like that coming before this year’s reveals, there’s got to be some big news to show off at the event itself.
Chances are, we’ll also be seeing our first look at GTA 5 Expanded and Enhanced, which has a new release date!
And there’s even a new PlayStation redesign coming next year, if reports are to be believed.
