PlayStation 5 Sells Record Numbers Per Minute, Sony Reveals

In a recent business briefing, Sony confirmed that the PlayStation 5 sold record numbers per minute compared to the PlayStation 4.

Sony has had some incredible years, with both the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5 selling extremely well.

And despite their PlayStation exclusives selling ridiculously well on PC, their focus remains on their beloved consoles.

If anything, the sales figures of the PlayStation 5 prove their focus is right, as the PS5 has sold record units per minute.

PS5 Sales Outpace PlayStation 4 Sales Within 90 Minutes

Sony has revealed that the PlayStation 5 sold 80k units with US retailers in 82 minutes, roughly 1,000 units per minute.

This incredible record was confirmed by Sony in a business briefing report, which was released on May 26.

In comparison to the PlayStation 4, it took 9 days to reach the same units sold in the US. That’s around 6 per minute at the same stage in the product lifecycle.

While the PlayStation 5 has a long way to go before it reaches the massive 116 million units of PS5 sold, it’s certainly a great start.

It’s even more interesting when you realize the issues with supply not meeting demand. However, the PS4 also suffered supply issues, albeit not as bad as the PS5.

Sony also revealed how many people in North America expressed interest in their consoles after one year of their respective launches. In November 2014, 28% of people expressed interest in a PlayStation 4.

One year after the launch of PlayStation 5, in November 2021, 55% of people expressed interest in the PS5 in North America.

And while PlayStation Plus subscriptions may have dropped recently, it seems PlayStation is on track for a great 2022.

If you still haven’t got a hold of a PlayStation 5 console, you may have another chance. Here’s where to buy the Horizon: Forbidden West PS5 bundles.

But if you’re willing to hold onto your PlayStation 4 a little bit longer, a PlayStation 5 Pro is claimed to be released in 2023/2024.

And PlayStation isn’t keeping its exclusive IPs limited to gaming anymore, with God of War and Horizon TV shows in production.
