Overwatch 2 Support Mains Concerned With New Changes

Overwatch 2’s changes have reworked and altered many of Overwatch’s heroes, modes, and more. But Support mains are concerned about the new changes.

If you were lucky enough to get into the Overwatch 2 Closed Beta, you’ll likely be loving the new reworks for Overwatch’s heroes.

One of the biggest changes compared to the original Overwatch is a move from 6v6 to 5v5. This means there are now two supports, two damage heroes, and only one tank.

And while Blizzard seemed pretty certain on these changes to balance the dynamic, Support mains have shared their frustration with the changes.

Overwatch 2 Changes Are Frustrating Support Hero Mains

Players who main Support characters in Overwatch have taken to the Overwatch subreddit to voice their complaints about the new changes.

User u/Subtronaut posted an image of the quick play queue system, along with the title “I think supports might struggle a bit”.

Of course, other players came in to voice their concerns. One user wrote “Yeah. I’m a Support main and genuinely do not like this. We cant do [anything] anymore without instantly dying.”

Another frustrated player said, “Imagine trying to play Zenyatta if there’s even a hint of Sombra on the opposing team or any agile flank for that matter.”

These are only a few comments from Overwatch players who find that Support heroes have been left out of the changes.

Due to the removal of one Tank in the new team composition, Supports can be easily flanked and killed by Damage characters who have been reworked.

How Can Blizzard Make Support Heroes Better in Overwatch 2?

So, what could be done to make Support heroes more viable, and more importantly, chosen more often?

New Support heroes and/or reworks of existing Support heroes would help keep up with the new meta.

Many heroes have seen changes in the Overwatch 2 Closed Beta, but the Support characters don’t see a change to make them fit with the new dynamic.

Retired Overwatch Pro and Streamer Brandon “A_Seagull” Larned said on a recent Twitch stream “Blizzard’s probably sitting on 5-6 new characters”.

And it certainly makes sense given only one new hero is in Overwatch 2 currently. If it is speculation, Blizzard must have more heroes planned for Overwatch 2.

There’s also the opportunity to convert DPS heroes into Support. While this is a dramatic option, tuning a character like Sombra into a Support role, could make Support more exciting.

Hopefully, Blizzard is listening to its players and makes changes to Overwatch 2 to adjust for Support mains.
