Overwatch 2 is the long-awaited follow-up to Blizzard Entertainment’s hero shooter, but will it come to Xbox Game Pass?
Whether or not you played (or still play) the original Overwatch, there’s plenty to look forward to with Overwatch 2. Blizzard’s signature FPS title is getting an overhaul, with new heroes, new maps, a new game mode, and even a PVE campaign.
Strangely enough, the game will be something of an addition to the original title, rather than a new release. Overwatch 2 players will be able to play alongside those that haven’t upgraded to the new game, at least in PVP.
Right now, players can sign up for the Overwatch 2 PVP Beta, for a chance to play early.
But on release day, will the game drop on Xbox Game Pass?
Will Overwatch 2 Be Free for Xbox Game Pass Subscribers?
The simple answer to this question is that we can’t be sure yet. However, it’s looking very likely that Overwatch 2 will appear on Xbox Game Pass.
After all, Microsoft’s $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision means that Blizzard games will soon fall under the Xbox umbrella.
And because of that, games like World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, Crash Bandicoot, and even Overwatch will soon be Microsoft properties. Check out the full list of games that Xbox will soon have the rights to here.
Previously, Xbox Boss Phil Spencer announced that the company would “offer as many Activision Blizzard games as we can within Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.” Reportedly, these games will include both new and existing games from Blizzard’s incredible catalog.
We imagine that Overwatch and its PVE follow-up will both appear on Xbox Game Pass before long. However, bear in mind that the Microsoft/Activision deal may not be finished until 2023, if it gets finalized at all.
Overwatch 2 currently has no release date, but it’s entirely possible that Blizzard’s title could release before the Microsoft deal is complete. In that case, we expect Overwatch 2 to come to Game Pass, but not necessarily on launch day.

Unfortunately, top streamers are unhappy with Overwatch 2 already. Let’s just hope that the game can show us that it’s worthy of bringing back the hype before launch day.
