Best Strategies for Sombra in Overwatch 2 Closed Beta

Here are some helpful tips and tricks, as well as what’s changed with Sombra in Overwatch 2:

Sombra’s changes from the live version of Overwatch to Overwatch 2’s Closed Beta aren’t too drastic.

Unlike Bastion, Doomfist, or Orisa, Sombra’s reworks are more focused on changing her playstyle to suit Overwatch 2.

We’re going to cover what has changed with her abilities, so you can keep up with Sombra’s rework!

Machine Pistol

Sombra’s primary fire, her automatic pistol, has been slightly balanced. However, not much of note has changed here.

Her damage has been reduced down to 7, from the 8 in the current game. The Machine Pistol also has a 10% reduction in spread.

Many of Sombra’s changes occur with her Hack ability. There are quite a few differences here, so keep with us!

The Hack cooldown has been reduced from eight seconds to four seconds, with the reduction of cooldown being removed when hacking health packs.

Another major thing to note is that hacked enemies are no longer ability locked for five seconds. They’re only locked for one second now.

However, Sombra and her team can now see hacked enemies through walls for eight seconds after enemies are hacked.

Obviously, Sombra’s changes mean you can hack enemies to provide locations for your team. If an annoying Damage hero is weaving in and out, hacking them will show them to your team for some time.

And with Hack having a reduction in cooldown, using this ability constantly is something you’ll need to get used to. This brings us to Sombra’s new Passive ability.

When enemies are hacked, they take an additional 40% in damage when hit. That’s a lot of damage!

So now, not only does your Hack cooldown fairly fast, and show enemy locations, they get hit harder by your team. As stated before, keeping your hacks constant is necessary.

Stealth has been made a lot more useful to help with Sombra’s more hack-orientated playstyle.

Sombra can use her Hack ability while in Stealth without it ending. However, she is visible while hacking and for 0.75 seconds after hacking.

Enemies can now detect her from 4 meters instead of the usual 2 meters, but she can fade into her Stealth ability faster.

This is to make Sombra more reliant on her abilities, it seems. Her pistol doesn’t do much damage, however, with Stealth and Hack, she can get the jump on many enemies.

Overwatch 2 Sombra Guide Stealth

The idea is to Stealth approach an enemy hero, hack them to lock their abilities, and make them visible. And then, you can either escape quickly or get some shots in and deal a decent chunk of damage.

You want to use a Stealth + Hack combo on any enemies that are keeping their team composition up. Locking Reinhardt out of his shield for a split second is enough to break a team’s defense, for example.

Last, but not least, is EMP. Sombra’s ultimate has been adjusted to compensate for the changes to Overwatch.

Enemies affected by HP lose 40% of their current health pool, however, EMP doesn’t deal additional damage to shield health pools.

Just like any other Hacked enemy, EMP lets you see enemies through walls as well as deal increased damage.

Overall Strategy

Using all of Sombra’s kit, including her unchanged Transolcator ability, you should be able to keep pressure on enemy heroes.

You want to be in and out as fast as possible, trying to disrupt their defense or attack enough for your team to swoop in and break the rest apart.

Obviously, Sombra’s hack is now less effective when it comes to enemy abilities, so watch out, as they could retaliate easier.

Focus on using your Hack on Support or Tank heroes. Taking them out sooner will make your team’s mission less difficult.

As you can tell, not much has changed with Sombra so most Sombra mains will find her easy to get used to again.
