2018 draws to a close, but it certainly has been a year to remember! Whether it was a new IP or a beloved franchise making its return, there have been moments we can all look back on with great fondness. But the excitement does not end there, as the upcoming Nintendo Switch games for 2019 and beyond promise to be bigger and better than ever!
Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games for 2019 and Beyond
Since as early as E3 2017, fans have been waiting patiently for some of these new upcoming Nintendo Switch games. But the wait is almost over. Here are some of the most anticipated new games coming to the Nintendo Switch in 2019 and beyond.
Super Mario Bros U. Deluxe
Being released only 2 weeks into the new year (11th Jan 2019). Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is set to start the year on the best foot possible. With over 160 2D side-scrolling courses to choose from, this throwback to the classic Mario platformer is bound to be a favorite amongst Nintendo fans.
Play on your own or with up to 4 friends, traverse the levels and collect the coins along your journey. Also, in typical fashion, the haphazard Princess Peach is once again in need of your help, so it is your mission to restore the order across the Mushroom Kingdom.
But the fun does not end there, as you can test your skills and might with your friends and family, by taking on the time attack courses and special challenge levels.
Although the date is yet to be determined, according to Nintendo’s official website, it is still set to be within 2019.
A lovable world, spanning close to 20 years, Animal Crossing has a fun new game coming to the Nintendo Switch for the whole family to enjoy. Ever since it hit our shelves in 2001, there has been a place set aside in our hearts for this fuzzy anthropomorphic village simulation game.
This new game on the Switch in 2019 also has a large female fan-base. This is in part due to the family-friendly gameplay and the exciting community simulation aspect. But, of course, Nintendo has perfectly tailored this title for anyone who enjoys a vibrant and relaxing social game, for all ages to pick up and enjoy.
Metroid Prime 4
Another game that has no current release date, but what we do know is that it is coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch at some point in 2019.
For 2 years since E3 2017, Metroid Prime 4 has been heavily anticipated and will be an exciting look into the sequel of the Prime series.
Throughout the waves of ambiguity, one thing is for certain, Metroid Prime, as a first-person shooter will tease a new storyline whilst remaining true to the Metroid universe.
Additionally, as with some other upcoming titles on the Switch in 2019, the development teams have also been updated. Retro Studios are known for creating the 3 previous masterpieces, but Nintendo has changed the formula and headed up a new development team of Metroid Prime 4. This is handled by Bandai Namco who have brought to us games from the Dragon Ball and Tekken franchises, so any sense of nervousness is simply misplaced. For now, all we can do is wait for once of the biggest games of the year.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
This upcoming Nintendo Switch game will be releasing in 2019, Intelligent Systems and Nintendo aim to bring us the sixteenth main title in the Fire Emblem series.
We previously saw Fire Emblem Warriors on the Nintendo Switch (September 2017), of which received a warm reception over the past year. But soon will be the turn of Fire Emblem Three Houses to take pride and place as the latest in the franchise.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a turn-based RPG where the victor is the one who utilizes the most strategy, cunning and wit.
In a twist to the familiar system, when you move your new character, a range of units whilst also maneuver into position. This helps to increase the sense of battle and sheer scale of the gameplay overall.
The new world of Fodlan will require you to engage in exciting adventures, meet new characters and learn to play in a whole new and unique way.
Luigi’s Mansion 3
This upcoming Nintendo Switch Games for 2019 is arguably one of the most anticipated. Many people have already secured their preorders for Luigi’s Mansion 3. Often overlooked in the Mario World, this series where Luigi is the main character is often a welcome change from routine.
However, this is still considered a working title by Nintendo themselves, so it may appear late 2019 or even as a later release. As I am sure most of you will agree, a perfected title released slightly later is the preferred outcome over a rushed incomplete title published early just to hit a deadline. But if any of the other previous Luigi’s Mansion games are anything to go by, we need not worry.
As mentioned, very little is known about this game as it is very much still a work in progress, but from the teaser footage, it looks simply stunning. Luigi’s Mansion will be an upcoming game for the Switch that most of us will want to add to our collection.
Mortal Kombat XI
Mortal Kombat is the graphically gruesome brother in the fighting franchise family. Adored for its no-holds-barred combat and gameplay mechanics, most battles are fought simply to unleash a devastating X-Ray move or deadly finisher.
Mortal Kombat XI (11) will be no different.
A trailer was accidentally released early ahead of the official reveal at The Game Awards 2018. The showdown between Scorpion and Raiden is synonymous of the barbaric levels of fighting we have all experienced whilst playing any of the titles since 1992.
As with all the original games, NetherRealm Studios have been heading the development of Mortal Kombat XI. And, of course, playable across all platforms upon release, it will be interesting to see how many will choose to purchase it for the Nintendo Switch. Given the mobile nature of the Switch console, it may even end up being the favorable choice for most fans.
Pokemon (New Title)
One of the most anticipated upcoming Nintendo Switch games for 2019 is this Pokemon RPG title which will be out in the second half of the year. Although not much is yet known about this new upcoming game exclusively on the Nintendo Switch, we have been told that it will be an all-new adventure featuring the brand new eighth-generation Pokemon.
Tsunekazu Ishihara (Pokemon Company CEO) mentioned in an interview with Famitsu that the new game for the Switch will be one of which longtime fans of the Pokemon Series can look forward to.
Platinum Games have revealed they are creating Bayonetta 3 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. This is in part due to the fact that the development project was largely funded by Nintendo.
Currently, a release window for this upcoming Nintendo Switch game has not been presented by either Nintendo or Platinum Games, but it is likely to be on the markets within the next year or two.
As for the gameplay, a whole host of weapons, moves, and attacks are readily available for Bayonetta, but there may be even more the shout about if players are allowed to control other characters in this upcoming Switch Game. More is sure to be revealed soon as we enter into 2019.
Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled
After the roaring success of Crash Banidcoot N’Sane Trilogy, it comes as no surprise that Activision would be bringing out the latest rework/addition to the widely popular racing series; CTR (Crash Team Racing), Crash Tag Team Racing and Crash Nitro Kart.
Earlier this month it was revealed that Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled will available on the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch June 21st, 2019.

Not only will players get to race around the familiar maps, but there will also be original characters, karts, power-ups, weapons, and modes to choose from. However, the last time you would have taken to racing in the classic Crash Team Racing it would have been on the sofa with your friends, but now, being 2019, you can challenge them online and compete to rank top of the online leaderboards.
Beenox (the developers) have done a fantastic job based on the assets and footage that has currently been released, so make sure you have placed your pre-order as this is a title for everyone to enjoy, and certainly not one to be missed.
Another one of the upcoming Nintendo Switch Games for 2019 to look forward to, Trials Rising is the latest 2.5-dimensional racer from Ubisoft and Red Lynx.
With a release date of February 12th, 2019, we do not have to wait for much longer. We even spoke about this upcoming game at the E3 2018 show earlier this year.
The Trails series is an exciting franchise and has been a leader in the 2.5D platform racer since the website Java versions in the early 2000s came out. I remember playing these on Miniclips.com and even then I was impressed with how simple yet enticing the gameplay was. This is a model they have perfected over the past 25 years and has resulted in the promising release of Trials Rising.
Yoshi’s Crafted World
A game teased to us from as early as E3 2017, anyone who loves the Mario universe has had a keen eye on Yoshi’s Crafted World.
In a brand new adventure for 2019, this side-scrolling game literally flips your perceptions on its head. This all-new exclusive Nintendo Switch game feature, the tradition left to right movement, but will also allow players to rotate the map 180 degrees. This combination creates a level of map immersion and interaction that is not often seen.
Vibrant and colorful are only a few adjectives used to describe this captivating adventure, so be sure to experience this Crafted World whilst playing as Yoshi and Red Yoshi in some super-fun single or 2-player action. Developed by Good-Feel, their history of ‘Mario world based’ titles proceed them, and I for one can’t wait to get my hands on this new game on the Switch in 2019.
All of these upcoming Nintendo Switch games in 2019 and beyond encourage the new year to be one filled with great excitement and endless hours of gaming fun for all. These are just a few of the titles (some of which are Switch exclusives) and many other games are bound to surpass our wildest expectations. What a time to be a gamer.
