Nintendo has officially revealed The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Switch release date!
First leaked by Amazon Japan, and now confirmed by Nintendo’s E3 Direct, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening will be released on Nintendo Switch on September 20th, 2019!
26 years after the game was originally released on Game Boy, the classic Link’s Awakening has been completely remade for Nintendo Switch.
The story follows Link who, after being caught in a storm at sea, has washed up on the mysterious Koholint Island. To get home he has to fight in challenging dungeons and battle against terrifyingly strong monsters.
This remade version of the game includes many of the unique elements that appeared in the first game’s release, including 2D platforming rooms, and appearances from characters outside of the Legend of Zelda series, such as Mario’s Goomba’s and the Chain Chomp.
What doesn’t return from the original Game Boy version of the game, however, is the art style. This new Link’s Awakening has been remade completely, ditching the flat 2D style of the old games and bringing the title straight into the modern area with a charming new 3D art style.
The original Link’s Awakening was very well-received by critics, with some outlets claiming it was the “best game boy game ever”. It won award several awards, ranging from graphics and sound to the best overall category for the Game Boy in 1993’s Nintendo Power Awards.
This, of course, isn’t even the first time Link’s Awakening has been re-released. Link’s Awakening DX achieved even better ratings than the original, thanks to its better colours and extra adventures.
Nintendo will no doubt be hoping that Link’s Awakening on Switch will go on to be an even better success, charming people with its toy-like graphics and top-down game play style.
While September is only a few months away, being forced to wait for Link’s Awakening is going to make it feel like years!
