Currently, within the newly released Super Smash Bros Ultimate, there is a range of playable characters, old and new. In total there are around 77 characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, that can be broken down into 3 categories. At the time of writing, there are around 69 fighters, with also 7 echo fighters and 1 DLC character (Piranha Plant – preorder bonus). However, it is already known that soon there will be even more DLC characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, the first of which will be Joker from Persona 5. This information was revealed on the 7th December at The Game Awards 2018. Whilst it is currently unknown what’s planned for the game, we’ve listed the most wanted characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate for Nintendo Switch below.
Although there is an already extensive and impressive roster, fans cannot help but look forward to additional content in the form of DLC’s (downloadable content), updates and potential season passes. Yes even just 2 days after release we are talking about the potential for MORE.
Most Wanted Characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate for Nintendo Switch
This is not to be confused with being ungrateful as the teams at Nintendo, Bandai Namco Entertainment and Sorta Ltd have done a truly incredible job. So this discussion serves more as a celebration of the Smash Bros franchise and opens a dialog around future content. The main thing we shall focus on is potential new characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, but of course, as the game evolves we will likely see new scenes, maps, spirits, skins, and items all be added as well.
As with all lists/suggestions, this is almost entirely subjective, but we have tried to create a list of wanted characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate based on your suggestions and lists created online. This roster is in no particular order, simply just a run through of names and reasons why they deserve a spot in future content. The information and proposed fighters is a result of online polls through Reddit and Twitter, other opinion pieces and fan-made lists.
With little searching required, most results place Waluigi at the top of the list as the fan favorite fighter to be added to the characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Waluigi is a main antagonist in the Mario universe and is Luigi’s evil doppelganger. He has made appearances on previous Smash Bros titles and so is hinted at being a shoo-in for a future DLC playable character.
Crash is one of the most iconic characters in video game history, starting out in 1996 on the PlayStation right through to the latest release of N’Sane Trilogy in 2017, Crash has taken pride and place in most of our homes. With his familiar spinning attacks and bounce flips, he would already enter the arena with a competent move set. It would be a travesty if we did not see Naughty Dogs hero be added to the Super Smash Bros Ultimate fighter roster.
Alright, technically this is a two for one, but you can’t have Banjo without Kazooie. This lovable bear and bird duo have already made appearances across other franchises such as Sonic & Sega All-Stars and Diddy Kong Racing. Therefore their appearance in Super Smash Bros Ultimate seems highly plausible. Perhaps they would come as one playable character with special skills/moves that cause them to tag-team on other enemies/players.
A classic character from Super Mario RPG, Geno has actually been in the Smash Bros World. But this brief appearance was in the form of a character skin rather than a unique playable character. Wielding a variety of ranged attacks in the form of his Geno Beam and weaponized moves, the addition of Geno would add an additional level of variety for players to choose from.
Isaac is the main character throughout the Golden Sun series/universe. Another character that made an appearance in a previous Smash Bros title (Super Smash Bros Brawl), Isaac caused fear within the stage/arena whenever he would summon up his Psyenergy spell ‘Move’. A hopeful addition to the roster in Super Smash Bros Ultimate as we move forward.
Rayman is a personal favorite character from what I consider to be the ‘Golder Era’ of gaming (early 90’s). His balance between overly animated punches and his movement mechanics seems almost perfectly tailored to traverse the arenas/stasges within Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
In the Sonic the Hedgehog series, Shadow was created as ‘the ultimate life form’. With Project Shadow using the DNA from Black Doom, Shadow is the true ‘Dark-Sonic’ in all senses of the word. Not only does he rival Sonic the Hedgehog with his speed and skill, but he had a one track mind, and that is destruction through his ‘Chaos’ move-set. Shadow would be a perfect addition as a playable character in Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
Professor Layton is renowned for having a complex mind and being a master of puzzles. Moves such as ‘Hat Trick’ and ‘En Guarde’ can cause a commotion, but typically his list of moves in previous appearances within the Smash Bros series was more ‘gimmicky’ due to the nature of the character. That being said, he relies heavily on his quick rolls and solid wall jump abilities to wear down any foe and set the stage for a calculated win.
Miles ‘Tails’ Prower is the much-loved companion and sidekick of Sonic the Hedgehog. Known for his distinct two tails, he has a cute and fluffy persona. But don’t let that fool you, as Tails is equipped with his devastating Air Chu Bombs and Chao attacks. These moves coupled with his hover ability make him a feared competitor. Also, Tails has been introduced to the world of Smash Bros in Super Smash Bros Brawl back in 2008, so he has already secured himself as a highly rated playable character.
This list is not based upon confirmed evidence and is only a suggestion of players/characters we and the community would like to see. The beauty with the Smash Bros series is that ANY character across ANY platform has the potential to be added as a character in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, so the possibilities are quite literally endless.
Let us know if you have any favorites you would love to see in Super Smash Bros Ultimate that may not be mentioned above.
