The prospect of titles on new platforms always causes a stir in the gaming community. So the potential of titles being ported to the new Nintendo Switch causes even larger waves. To anyone who was watching The Game Awards yesterday hosted in Los Angeles, you may be aware of information that pertains to a certain franchise and its connection with a certain fan-favorite title. Of course, we are referring to the news that Persona’s character Joker will become a playable character in Super Smash Bros Ultimate roster as part of a DLC (downloadable content). This led to a series of questions with many remaining to be answered. What other characters will we see in the newest Smash Bros title? What is in other DLC’s? Why predominantly Playstation characters on the switch? But the paths of the investigation did not end there, with more news/leaks suggesting that we will get a version of Persona 5 on the Nintendo Switch.
Will We Get Persona 5 on Nintendo Switch?
Just to get everyone up to speed, the Persona series has been widely successful series within the Role-Playing/social-simulation genre. Ever since it’s release in 1996, with Revelations: Persona, Atlas (Developers) have given us many award-winning titles right up to Persona 5 in 2016 on the PS4.
The news at The 2018 Game Awards that Super Smash Bros Ultimate players will be able to play as Joker was unexpected, to say the least. This is a crossover of two industry giants that many could not foresee. The playable character will be Joker who, in persona 5, is the alter ego of the protagonist.
All the news around Persona 5 on the Nintendo Switch led Mystic Distance, an active member, translator, and writer of Persona fan site Persona Central to propose some interesting details around a possible port. The specifics suggest that we will be getting a version of Persona 5 on the Nintendo Switch. Although it is thought that this may not be a direct port of the PS5 version but rather a new title and may contain some changes to the story elements.
The main pieces of evidence around this rumor are two web domains that have been reported to be purchased by Atlas back in 2017.
Both of which are Japnese domains and although on their own do no reveal too much, they do suggest Persona 5 titles or add-ons coming in the near future. Along with the Persona 5 cameo in Super Smash Bros Ultimate anything is possible. So if what is being rumored does indeed come true, then we could see a new Persona (or even Persona 5) on the Nintendo Switch as early as 2019.
