Pokémon has always drawn a huge crowd and typically overshadows everything that gets announced with it. Back in May, before E3 2018, the Pokémon Company announced that we would be getting three new games on the Nintendo Switch. Pokémon Quest was announced and released the same day. Pokémon Let’s Go, Eevee! and Pokémon Let’s Go, Pikachu! are to be released on November 16th of this year. It was also announced that a new mainline series Pokémon game will be released on the Switch.
Pokemon 2019 Release Date Refined
Not much was released about the mainline Pokémon game that is to be released in 2019. However, today in the cusp of Nintendo releasing their financial information for the second quarter of this year, the Pokemon 2019 release date was refined and listed as “late 2019” instead of “second half”.
Pokémon has come under scrutiny recently over the Pokémon Let’s Go series. Some have called it a spinoff and some of the core fans have made their displeasure for this game very obvious. Whether it’s the lack of actual wild battles or catching gimmick, Let’s Go has divided the fanbase in half.
While we may have to wait a little longer it is much better that we wait for optimizations and localizations, one thing is for certain: Pokémon, regardless of what it is called, will move units for Nintendo. Selling just shy of twenty million Switch units in only one year and three months on the market. Nintendo has stated they expect to move an additional twenty million units for this next fiscal year and they are onto a good start despite not having a system seller game being announced within the first two quarters of this year.
We have heard nothing of the new mainline game coming next year but other than it’s a core RPG and it will be the next generation in the series. Pokémon is Nintendo’s most popular game series. If they can capture at least 1% of the eight hundred million people that played Pokémon Go! that would push sales beyond any other Pokémon game to date. I’m hyped for this next core RPG that is coming in late 2019 but until then I’ll be playing Pokémon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon Let’s Go, Eevee!
