One of the most surprising announcements of the February Nintendo Direct was certainly the revival of the Sports series.
Wii Sports was one of the main reasons why the Wii became so popular. This simple yet entertaining game popularized the era of motion controllers.
Nintendo is trying to bring that golden era back with this entry. Furthermore, the Nintendo Switch and its Joy-Con controllers are a perfect platform for a game like Switch Sports.

Nintendo Switch Sports Release Date, Pricing, Sports, Online Play & Motion Controls
Today, Nintendo announced Nintendo Switch Sports is launching on April 29, 2022. This new entry in the franchise will release with an MSRP of $39.99.
Nintendo Switch Sports includes the following sports:
- Chambara (Swordplay)
- Golf (Planned as a free update in Fall 2022)
Additionally, Nintendo Switch Sports offers a free Online Play Test before launch for Nintendo Online subscribers.
Nintendo Switch Sports Online Gameplay
For this entry, Nintendo is planning a robust set of online features. Nintendo Switch Sports will include the following online features:
- Online support for all games
- Online Matchmaking with in-game rewards (clothing, gear, Pro League status)
- Local competitive play
- Online Play with Friends
- Local co-op in some sports against online competitors
Improved Motion Control
This title will allow more motion control than its previous entries, according to Nintendo. For instance, players will be able to use the Leg Strap accessory to kick the ball in Soccer Shout-Out.
Nintendo also promised an upcoming free update to allow the use of the Leg Strap accessory for entire Soccer matches.
Aside from Switch Sports announcements, Nintendo also showcased Splatoon 3’s Salmon Run Next Wave co-op gameplay.
Overall, this Nintendo Direct was one of the most significant events in a while for the company, promising a solid 2022 for the platform.
