There’s no question that the Nintendo Switch is one of the most groundbreaking consoles of all time, but these new sales figures show just how popular the device is in 2021.
Right now, every gamer is still trying desperately to get hold of a PS5 or Xbox Series X. And, despite the two consoles launching only 6 months ago, there’s one device still holding the market’s attention.
The Nintendo Switch has been the best-selling console every month for over 2 years so far. Although things may be different if the next-gen devices had the stock to fulfill demand, it’s truly impressive that the Switch is still performing so well, now 49 months after launch.
The good news is, next-gen console stock shortage is coming to an end soon! And if you’re still on the hunt for a PlayStation, our PS5 stock trackers will get you one in no time.
Now, we have new details about the Nintendo Switch’s insane sales figures in 2021, including how the console stacks up to its competition.
How Do Nintendo Switch Sales Compare to Other Consoles?
Thanks to new charts by analyst Daniel Ahmad, we can see the scale of the Nintendo Switch’s incredible success.
The graph reveals the overall sales for a number of popular consoles across the globe. And it’s easy to see how the Switch stacks up against the rest.
Right now, the Nintendo Switch has sold 84.59 million units to date. When comparing that figure to the number of PS5s currently on the market, it’s no wonder that Nintendo’s console is outshining Sony in the charts.
In 2021 alone, the Nintendo Switch helped drive Nintendo’s earnings to $16.59 billion, a figure that is up 34.4% year-over-year.
After 49 months on the market, the Switch is currently selling faster than both the Nintendo Wii and the PS4, two of history’s most popular launches. Ahmad predicts that the device will soon hit 100 million sales, faster than both of its predecessors.
That said, Nintendo is already warning fans about a potential Switch parts shortage if demand continues. Right now, the Nintendo Switch has already outsold the Game Boy Advance and PlayStation Portable, and is soon to surpass the PS3 and Xbox 360 too.
The only device still ahead of the Switch at this point in its lifespan is the Nintendo DS, the company’s most popular console of all time. And with a 4K Nintendo Switch Pro leaking for 2021, the console’s sales figures are ready to explode once again.
Speaking of leaks, Nintendo’s big E3 plans are leaking early, with hints at Splatoon 3, Zelda, Smash Bros., and more! Meanwhile, the company confirms that Nintendo is focussing on creating new game series in the future.
That said, there’s still a new Mario Kart in production, if this rumor is to be believed…
