Nintendo to Focus on ‘Creating New Game Series’ in Future

In a new interview, Nintendo’s President admits that the company is focussing its efforts on creating new game series.

Nintendo is, without a doubt, one of the most creative companies in the gaming industry. You only need look at the success of the Nintendo Switch or DS to see just how well that innovation can benefit a company.

And when it comes to making games, Nintendo is no slouch either. Although system sellers like Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Pokemon are always a must-have, Nintendo’s platforms always host some brand-new IPs too.

Titles like ARMS, Splatoon, and Xenoblade are just some of Nintendo’s most recent successful IPs. However, there’s more to come very soon, if the company’s President can be believed.

Nintendo to Create New Game Series

In a new interview with Nikkei, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa confirms that the company is focussing its efforts on creating new game series.

Innovation is clearly incredibly important to Nintendo, a company that doesn’t often try to compete with the power of other brands. Despite plans for a new 4K Nintendo Switch launching this year, the company has shown time and time again that it can outsell other consoles even with less processing power.

Now, President Furukawa admits that Nintendo is once again attempting to create a brand-new IP.

“With the expansion of time spent at home, the range of ‘entertainment’ as an object of consumption is expanding,” Furukawa began.

The President points out that gaming is not a necessity, and Nintendo wants customers to be interested enough to “choose games in their finite time.”

“I myself am looking at and studying various forms of entertainment. In the future, we will focus on creating new game series as well as long-sellers such as Mario and Zelda.”

And with the open-world Breath of the Wild-esque Pokemon game on the horizon, it’s clear that there’s room to innovate within all of Nintendo’s brands!

Nintendo Working on the Switch’s Successor?

What’s more, President Furukawa is reiterating that Nintendo is currently in the testing stages for the Switch’s successor.

Nintendo’s next console may still be years away, but this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about it.

Previously, the Nintendo President confirmed that the company was working without stopping on a new console. And today, Furukawa’s answer isn’t too different.

“We are constantly building up ideas for the new consoles the market is expecting, but there are some things we can’t do now due to technology and cost constraints.”
