A brand-new Nintendo Direct livestream is now confirmed for September 14 2023.
Here’s everything we know about the event, from its release date to leaks and predictions of what’s to come:
Nintendo Direct September Release Date
With numerous leaks being proven true, a Nintendo Direct has now finally been confirmed for September 14 at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET / 3 PM BST.
Update: Check out the full Nintendo Direct showcase here:
The original article continues below:
According to the announcement, the Direct will be approximately 40 minutes long, focussing on games set to release this winter.
Nintendo has a history of September Directs, so we knew one would be on the way. And after multiple leaks, we finally have confirmation.
September Nintendo Direct Predictions
Nintendo currently has very few games announced that appear to be releasing before the end of the Nintendo Switch lifecycle.
Now that Pikmin 4 has arrived, the publisher has almost no major first-party releases left on its slate, so what’s likely to be revealed at the September 2023 Nintendo Direct?
Princess Peach Showtime – Confirmed
Nintendo has already revealed that a currently untitled Princess Peach game will be coming to Nintendo Switch in 2024. We’d say it’s about time for the Princess to be in another starring role!

It’s also about time that we got a name for this new release, as well as a look at the kind of gameplay players can expect.
And if rumors are true, Princess Peach Showtime will indeed be making an appearance!
Detective Pikachu Returns – Confirmed
It wasn’t too long ago that we got an overview of what to expect in Detective Pikachu Returns.

That said, without many upcoming titles in Nintendo’s library, and with the October 6 release date just around the corner, we expect to see the caffeine-addicted talking Pikachu show his face once more.
Super Mario RPG Remake – Confirmed
One of the most highly-anticipated games in recent history, Super Mario RPG is getting a remake later this year.

We’d be surprised if this game didn’t make an appearance, particularly as it releases on November 17, 2023. What’s more, since Super Mario Bros. Wonder just got its own separate presentation, the September Direct needs some Mario representation!
Metroid Prime 4 – Did Not Appear
We almost feel overly optimistic for expecting it but surely Metroid Prime 4 information will arrive one of these days. The game’s announcement arrived over 6 years ago, during E3 2017.
Since then, we’ve heard almost nothing about the game.

Metroid Prime 4 is still expected to be coming to Nintendo Switch systems, and is expected to be the last major release dropping on the console before its successor arrives.
F-Zero 99 – Confirmed
Although this one wouldn’t have been on our bingo card, a cryptic leak from reliable leaker Pyoro seems to indicate that F-Zero will be making a long-awaited return in the September Nintendo Direct.
For those unaware, MATLAB has a function called ‘fzero’ which finds the root of a non-linear function.

The leaker has since liked a tweet from a fan who guessed that the high-octane racing title would return, indicating that yes – F-Zero looks to be back!
Mario vs Donkey Kong – Confirmed
It’s not just F-Zero that Pyoro is teasing either! The leaker appears to be hinting at a new DK game announcement, by posting a gif of Donkey Kong from the Super Mario Bros. movie.
In an added tease, the leaker writes ‘You see who he is, but never see who he is fighting.’ Could this be a tease for a new Mario vs Donkey Kong title, or something else entirely?
WarioWare Move It! – Confirmed
Another upcoming game in the Mario universe, WarioWare Move It! is the newest party game set to arrive on Nintendo Switch.

With a release date of November 3, it’s likely that we see new gameplay of what to expect from the brand-new entry in the iconic WarioWare franchise.
Persona 5 Tactica – Did Not Appear
The marketing has certainly dialed up for Persona 5 Tactica, a spin-off that features an all-new story for the P5 cast. Therefore, a new trailer drop seems relatively likely for the upcoming Direct.

This time, Persona fans can enjoy a tactical turn-based experience as well as the introduction of new characters – both allies and foes!
Wildcard Pick: A New Fire Emblem – Did Not Appear
This is a shot in the dark for us but it feels like we’re almost at the reveal of a new Fire Emblem title.
Yes, Fire Emblem Engage only dropped at the start of the year, but reports indicate that the latest game actually wrapped up production back in 2021 and was held back before launch.

Therefore, the next Fire Emblem title is likely several years into its development cycle, potentially even beginning following the launch of Three Houses in 2019.
Could this be the time for a new Fire Emblem to reveal itself?
Will the Nintendo Switch 2 Get Announced?
No, it’s very unlikely that the Nintendo Switch 2 (or any form of Switch successor) will get a tease in the September Nintendo Direct.
Although rumors state that a new console is on the way, it’s worth pointing out that new Nintendo hardware always gets a separate reveal, rather than an announcement coming as part of a general Direct.
Will Zelda TOTK DLC Get Announced?
No, it seems that we shouldn’t expect Zelda TOTK DLC to get announced… ever!
In a new interview, Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has confirmed that Tears of the Kingdom will not get any DLC.
Instead, the team is still thinking about where to take the Zelda formula, and what form that will take.
