The online Halo community has been buzzing about a new Halo game over the past couple of days. But is it what they think it is?
Recently, Halo developer 343 Industries posted a new job listing, which sent the Halo community into a meltdown. The job listing advertised for a producer to participate in the development of "a new project in the Halo universe."
Of course, it’s common knowledge that Halo Infinite is in active development and scheduled for release in Q3/Q4 of 2021. The game has faced a few delays since its reveal.
Last week this led to the developers providing an update about Halo Infinite to reassure fans of the sci-fi first-person shooter series. But the phrasing of the job listing led fans to believe this was different from Halo Infinite.
More specifically, it was the term “new project” that caused the hype. This led fans to believe that a second Halo game could be in the works - alongside Halo Infinite.
Could it be a new Halo Wars game? A Halo Reach 2 or some other spin-off? The answer is apparently, no. It’s none of the above.
New Halo Game - Truth Revealed
According to a recent Tweet from Halo Community Manager at 343 Industries, John Junyszek, the job listing is simply referring to Halo Infinite.
Responding to another Twitter user earlier today, Junyszek revealed that the job listing was using the same template they’ve always used for Halo Infinite roles.
The company had just used the same copy/words from older job listings when Halo Infinite WAS a new project. – As opposed to one the world already knows about.
He also clarified the role is indeed for Halo Infinite and not some other project. So there we have it.
Sadly, there is no additional Halo game in development. At least not one that 343 Industries is ready to reveal.
We believe Junyszek’s Tweet to be genuine in that he’s clarifying the truth to fans rather than deliberately attempted to mislead us. After all, this is a real role that the company is recruiting for, not some gaming leak.
However, one leak suggests that 343 are creating a Halo Infinite Battle Royal. And that Halo Infinite’s multiplayer will release separately from the single-player game – it could even be free to play.
If the role advertised is for this, then technically it will be for a “new Halo project.” As 343 and Microsoft have yet to officially unveil this mysterious Battle Royal mode.
Other Halo theorists believe that ‘Halo Royale’ could be Microsoft’s answer to Call of Duty Warzone. Something which Activision intend to outlast their annual COD titles, making Warzone its “top priority.”
Could Halo aim to do something similar? We sure hope so!
