There’s a brand new Gulag in 1980s Verdansk, and Warzone fans will be happy to see the return of Standoff.
The Gulag is one of Warzone’s most iconic locations, acting as a second chance to all those who die in battle. Win a one-on-one match against another prisoner and you’re free to go.
Initially, the Gulag was seen as being a great feature in the battle royale, but opinions began to sour over time. When Rebirth Island first launched, two new Gulags arrived in Warzone alongside it.
And despite players hoping it would return, we never saw the original shower Gulag again. Now, we have yet another prisoner battleground in 1980s Verdansk.
But this time, the Gulag might be in its best form yet.
Warzone: New Standoff Gulag in 1980s Verdansk
It’s a great time to be a Black Ops 2 fan as Warzone’s 1980s Verdansk Gulag is based off the classic map Standoff.
In February 2021, Warzone fans were demanding a remaster of Standoff in Black Ops Cold War. And today, gamers got their wish.
In the full Black Ops Cold War Season 3 patch notes, Treyarch confirms that Standoff is returning. But that isn’t the last time we’ll be seeing it.
Warzone fans will soon be able to enjoy Verdansk’s 1980s map for themselves, and there’s a new Gulag waiting to be explored. This time basing its appearance on Black Ops 2’s Standoff map, the layout is a creative take on a 1v1 arena.
Of course, the new 1980s Verdansk Gulag isn’t a full-scale remake of Standoff, but there’s no missing what it’s set up to resemble. Let’s just hope that the new arena fixes all of the previous major issues with the Warzone Gulag.
This time, Raven Software has to get not only the weapon balance correct, but also the fairness of both spawn points. Thankfully, going by the incredible Warzone Season 3 patch notes, it seems that the developer is really listening to fans right now!
