Many Call of Duty players are requesting refunds for MW3 after being disappointed with the game’s short and lackluster campaign.
Players who pre-ordered the more expensive digital editions of Modern Warfare 3 were only able to play the campaign in Early Access on November 4. They will have to wait till November 10 to play multiplayer with the rest of the COD community.
However, some are so taken aback by MW3’s campaign that they are requesting refunds and completely forgoing the game’s multiplayer.
Why Fans Are Refunding MW3
Fans are refunding their copies of Modern Warfare 3 after expressing disappointment with the game’s campaign mode, which became available in Early Access on November 4.
One Reddit user got a refund on Steam as a way of negating their “bad” experience with the game:
This Twitter user’s explanation for their Steam refund request was that MW3 is only a “4 hour game”. They compare it to the $10 DLC for Resident Evil 4 Remake, which lasted five hours and costs $60 less:
In addition to the game’s staggeringly short length, fans are also incredibly frustrated with Modern Warfare 3’s mission design and lackluster narrative.
The poorly received open combat missions, rushed story, and disappointing use of characters led many players to believe that MW3’s campaign is the worst in Call of Duty history.

Despite this, many COD fans have come to the game’s defense, criticizing those who purchased MW3 for its campaign only. This user believes the $70 price tag is justified by the multiplayer and predicts that those who refunded the game will buy it again to play online:
On the other hand, some think that Modern Warfare 3’s poor campaign indicates what to expect from the game’s multiplayer. This user believes there is a “correlation between campaign quality and multiplayer quality”:
Despite COD fans not seeing eye to eye, one thing is abundantly clear- the campaign is certainly a huge disappointment.
Here’s hoping the MW3 multiplayer will fare better than the campaign when it officially releases for consoles and PC on November 10!
