Game modes are an essential part of a Call of Duty Multiplayer experience, and fans of the franchise wonder which ones will be in MW3.
Throughout the years, Multiplayer has been a staple of the CoD franchise as players battle against each other to come out as the winning team. Meanwhile, singleplayer fanatics will be itching to test out a new campaign

What Game Modes Will be in MW3?
In MW3, there will be three main game modes:
- Campaign
- Multiplayer
- Zombies
These modes have all been confirmed by the developers.
The Campaign mode is set to extend the narrative of the Modern Warfare 2 series, with Makarov assuming the central antagonist role in the story.
Simultaneously, the MW3 Zombies mode will incorporate an Outbreak-style gameplay, integrated into an open-world environment.
Lastly, the classic CoD Multiplayer experience will be present, complete with all the iconic maps from the original MW2 release in 2009.
Multiplayer will be complete with a bunch of game modes and playlists for players to enjoy.
Every Multiplayer Game Mode in MW3
The following game modes have been confirmed by the developers through the official Call of Duty blog:

| Ground War | 32v32 | Large-scale battle where you must hold objectives to score points. Captured objectives open forward spawning locations for your team. |
| War Mode | 6v6 | One team takes on the role of the attackers, aiming to achieve objectives, while the opposing team assumes the role of defenders, working to protect these objective points. |
| Cutthroat | 3v3v3 | At the moment, little is known about this mode, but it will likely be three teams competing in some Core game modes. |
| Invasion | 20v20 | Massive and chaotic battle where a mix of AI and Players fight alongside each other. |
Additionally, these modes have not been confirmed but are expected as they have been staples of CoD Multiplayer throughout the years.

| Team Deathmatch | Core – 6v6 | Kill players on the opposing team. The first team to reach the score limit or team with the most kills once the timer reaches 0 wins. |
| Free-for-All | Core | Kill everyone. The first player to reach the score limit ends the game and the Top 3 players with the most kills win. |
| Search & Destroy | Core – 6v6 | Two teams. One side must defend their bomb sites while the other attempts to plant and blow up a bomb. Teams alternate between both sides and there are no respawns. |
| Kill Confirmed | Core – 6v6 | Recover dog tags from killed enemies to score points. Deny enemies from scoring by collecting dog tags from fallen teammates. The first team to reach the score limit wins. |
| Domination | Core – 6v6 | Capture, hold and defend flags around the map. Each flag will reward +1 point every few seconds if you hold it. First team to reach the score limit wins. |
| Headquarters | Core – 6v6 | Work to capture the Headquarters, then defend it from the enemy team. Respawns are turned off for the team holding the HQ. |
| Hardpoint | Core – 6v6 | Capture the Hardpoint and defend it against the other team. Each second you hold the objective is +1 to your score. The first team to reach the score limit wins. |
| Control | Core – 6v6 | Two control points exist. The attacking team aims to capture both within a set number of lives and before time elapses, while the defending team’s goal is to hold them until time runs out. Each team has 30 lives. |
A Hardcore playlist is also a likely addition to the game but also not confirmed. This will include Hardcore variants for all Core game modes.
This playlist will involve a limited HUD, lower Health and friendly fire being enabled.
There is likely to be more game modes included in MW3 such as:
- Invasion
- Gun Game
- Grind
- Cranked
However, at this moment, these modes have yet to be announced and they have not previously featured at launch in a majority of the former titles, creating uncertainty about whether they will be included.
