Activision’s latest financial release seemingly confirms that Modern Warfare 2 will receive premium content in Year 2.
Previously, Activision stated that Modern Warfare 2 would have a two-year lifespan. With Treyarch developing the next Call of Duty title in 2024.

MW2 Year 2 2023 Premium Expansion
MW2 Year 2 will reportedly add a lot of premium content to MW2 in 2023. This content is unrelated to the Call of Duty title that Treyarch is developing for 2024.
Jason Schreier confirmed on Twitter that Sledgehammer Games is developing MW2’s Year 2 premium content through a large premium expansion scheduled to release in 2023.
Modern Warfare 2 is one of the best-selling Call of Duty titles. It is currently on track to smash multiple franchise records.
Activision is looking to build on this momentum and keep the player base healthy for the next two years with the help of this premium expansion.
MW2 Year 2 2023 Content
Players should expect more than the usual yearly Call of Duty content updates when it comes to MW2 Year 2.
It has been described as a ‘premium paid expansion’, which will likely lead to both Campaign and Multiplayer additions.

MW2 Year 2 Price / Cost Estimation
MW2 Year 2 will not be free. A full premium expansion is likely to cost approximately $70 / £60, with it being described as ‘the next full premium release’.
We are expecting it to cost the same or similar to a full release, since this expansion is replacing the usual yearly Call of Duty release, delaying Treyarch to 2024.
For reference, the MW2 2022 full game was priced at $70.
Sledgehammer Games MW2 Year 2 Involvement
Sledgehammer Games will be the developer for the Year 2 expansion of MW2.
They are no stranger to Call of Duty development. Although the main developer for MW2 (2022) was Infinity Ward, they have already worked together on the game.
