The roadmap for the upcoming MW2 and Warzone Season 5 has just been released, and with it, we got some early patch notes about what players can expect.

Call of Duty has faced an uphill battle with Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone these past few months. The community isn’t as active as it once was, and every update seems to take two steps forward but one step back.

However, with Warzone and MW2 Season 5, it seems that Call of Duty is really hoping to capitalize on all the good parts of the series and pave the way for a warm welcome to COD 2023.

Four New MW2 Maps

MW2 Season 5 will introduce four new maps to its multiplayer modes at launch, including:

Punta Mar (Core Map)

Punta Mar MW2 Season 5

Punta Mar is a brand new map from Infinity War that takes players to a recently evacuated tourist attraction in Las Almas.

The map features long slopes, plenty of shops to use as cover, and rooftops to help you spot your enemies. Players will have little time to plan if they run into an enemy in the tight streets of this area.

Strike (Core Map) – Originally from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Strike MW2 Season 5

Strike will take players fifteen years in the past to one of the core maps of one of the most iconic games in the franchise, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

MW2 Season 5 will fully restore this map to its former glory so that players can engage in gunfights using the current weapon roster and tactics.

Lounge (Gunfight Map)

Lounge Warzone Season 5 Map

Players will have no time to relax in this Lounge as Gunfight brings this high-octane club to its roster of maps for the small-squad mode.

Canals (Gunfight Map)

Canals MW2 Season 5 Map

Gunfights will take players to Vondel to pit two small squads of two against each other, where a moored boat helps provide cover.

DRC-Zone 1 (Core Map) – Season 5 Reloaded

Season 5 Reloaded, expected to release on August 30th, will also introduce DRC – Zone 1. This is another Core Map that will join the usual rotation of multiplayer maps in MW2.

The DRC is a research campus that players may actually see in Building 21 DMZ. It is a small map that will focus on fast-paced combat and reward players that think on their feet.

New MW2 Multiplayer Modes

Modern Warfare 2 Season 5 will also introduce various new modes to help players keep their experience fresh, including:

Havoc

The Havoc game mode will launch with MW2 Season 5 and introduce a mode that pays homage to the classic arena-shooter games.

Every time this game mode is played, you’ll receive random enhancement modifiers that change the gameplay. Sometimes players will recognize these modifiers, but other times they’ll result in complete chaos for the lobby.

It follows a similar format to Team Deathmatch but without Perk Packages, Killstreaks, or Field Upgrades. Instead, players will use the modifiers to their advantage.

The game will introduce a new modifier to the mix each time one of the following kill counts is reached – 12, 24, 36, 48, and 60.

There are over fourteen modifiers, but Activision only revealed what five of them do so far:

  • Ammo Feeder – Auto reloads your weapon with an elimination.
  • Boots Off the Ground – The game will enter Moon Gravity. This only affects jump heights and not equipment.
  • Flameshot – Players are only allowed to use Flame-tipped Crossbows and Molotovs. Every loadout in the lobby will immediately change to this.
  • Hero Landing – When you land after a big drop, you’ll create a frag-grenade-like explosion around you.
  • Perspective Shift – Everyone will swap to a 3rd person camera.

Modifiers will stack as each match progresses, which ensures that every game you enter ends in chaos.

Big Capture the Flag

Big Capture the Flag will introduce the popular retrieve and protect game mode to the Battle Maps of Modern Warfare 2.

This will feature immense Capture the Flag matches with 20v20 gunfights.

New Gunfight Variants

MW2 Season 5 will also introduce three new variants for the Gunfight game mode, including:

  • Gunfight Custom – Available with Season 5 Launch
    • The weapons players will use in this will include their favorite loadouts.
  • Gunfight Snipers – Available with Season 5 Reloaded
    • Only Sniper Rifles and Marksman Rifles are allowed. Players will even have to leave all Secondary, Tacticals, and Lethals out of their load-outs.
  • Armored Gunfight – Arriving sometime within Season 5
    • In this version of Gunfight, all players will spawn with 150 HP of armor, 100 health, and no replacement plates or health regen.

Faceoff 4v4 – Season 5 Reloaded

During MW2 Season 5 Reloaded, players can bring two extra squad mates to the Gunfight maps.

This mode will lead to fast-paced matches where players need to make the most of the space provided.

Vondel Champion’s Quest

The popular Champion’s Quest objective is making its way to the Warzone Resurgence map, Vondel, with Season 5.

This is essentially when a squad that is on a win streak (five wins in a row) has the opportunity to set off a nuke in Warzone. Players who manage to complete this will receive a unique Weapon Blueprint.

Warzone Season 5 Champion's Quest

However, this new Champion’s Quest does bring a few changes:

  • If players drop an element, they must recapture it before continuing with the objective.
  • There are three new elements, each with a new status effect.
    • Gallium – Continuously reveals nearby elements similar to the Snapshot Grenade.
    • Deuterium – Fatigues the Operator and causes them to cough when they try to sprint.
    • Neptunium – This will periodically electrocute the player and all nearby Operators. It also haywires vehicles with an effect similar to Shock Stick.

New Warzone Vehicles

Warzone Season 5 will introduce two new vehicles to the battlefield, the MRAP and Dirt Bike. Players can find both of these vehicles on their Tac Map.

Call of Duty 2023 Reveal Event

During Warzone Season 5, Call of Duty will officially announce the name of their upcoming 2023 title. Leaks have already been rumored that it is MW3, but this event will finally confirm if they are true.

The event itself will have players join the Shadow Company against the Konni forces to secure a chemical weapon before it brings disaster to Al Mazrah.

Fort Resurgence & Armored Royale in Warzone

There are two new modes coming to Warzone Season 5, and that is Fort Resurgence and Armored Royale.

Armored Royale drops players into battle with their very own MRAP. The only issue is that every other team also has the same luxury. Players will need to rage battle with this vehicle while staying alive and ensuring their team doesn’t blow up.

Fort Resurgence will allow players to head into Al Bagra Fortress as a Resurgence map. This means faster-paced combat and more redeploys.

Six New Weapons

FR Avancer – Assault Rifle (Season 5 Battle Pass Reward)

FR Warzone Season 5

The FR Avancer is a fast-firing bullpup rifle that will help players in their midrange battles. It has an incredible fire rate and can dominate the battlefield when in capable hands.

Carrack .300 – Sniper Rifle (Season 5 Battle Pass Reward)

Carrack .300 Warzone Season 5

The Carrack .300 is a semi-auto bullpup sniper rifle that has a high fire rate and great stability control. It’s great for players that want to fire off a few rounds from afar before their enemy can react.

M13C – Assault Rifle (Launching in Season 5)

M13C Warzone Season 5

The M13C may not pack as much of a punch as other assault rifles, but its rate of fire more than make up for that.

There are also three other weapons that MW2 and Warzone will release during Season 5, but there isn’t any information on them yet. These weapons include an SMG, Sidearm, and Melee Weapon.

New Operators

Warzone Season 5 will introduce a plethora of exciting new Operators to Call of Duty, including:
