Infinity Ward has revealed everything that’s coming to MW2 and Warzone 2’s first-ever mid-season update, Season 1 Reloaded.
This is coming just after Warzone 2 hit digital libraries this November, keeping up a flow of consistent Call of Duty content.
Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 Season 1 was released on November 16. Now, as we approach the mid-point of the season, a major update is just around the corner.
Everything that’s coming to MW2 and Warzone 2 Season 1 Reloaded is below:
Atomgrad Raid in MW2
The episodic Raids are co-op Special Ops missions only available for MW2 owners and require three players to participate in missions involving combat, narrative scenes, dialogue, and puzzles.
The first Raid, titled Atomgrad, specifically focuses on MW2’s underwater and stealth mechanics, occurring after the events of the game’s single-player campaign.
However, to unlock and play a Raid mission, at least one player on a three-person team must have a Raid Assignment.
After getting a Raid Assignment, you will have one week’s access to the Raid mission. You can invite any owners of MW2 to join you in a Raid mission with no additional requirements.
Shipment Map in MW2
But those itching for more will be more than satisfied with the addition of the franchise’s classic multiplayer map, Shipment, in Modern Warfare 2.
MW2 takes the old favorite in new directions, placing players back in the familiar claustrophobic surroundings, but this time at sea on a container ship.
- Shipment 6v6 will be featured in MW2 Playlists throughout Season 1.
Holiday Shipment will also be available for a limited time, from December 21, 2022, to January 4, 2023. Infinity Ward is updating the map with holiday decorations, including ice, snow, string lights, and more.
DMZ Area: Building 21
Warzone 2 players are also getting a new area in the DMZ mode, mysteriously only referred to as Building 21.
Though the official Call of Duty blog is a little secretive with the details, this oddly liminal laboratory seems to be locked behind several keys scattered around Al Mazrah.
- Despite unclear high risks, Building 21 holds useful rewards.
- High-tier Contraband is found throughout the facility, locked in safes and rooms.
The mid-season update also adds the new stealth Chimera Assault Rifle to MW2 and Warzone 2.
The new close-to-mid-range stealth weapon can be bought in the in-game store or via weapon unlock challenges that have not yet been announced.
Gaz and Klaus Operators
Kyle “Gaz” Garrick of Captain Price’s Task Force 141, and Klaus Fisker, a Denmark special forces member, are the two new operators planned for MW2 and Warzone 2 in the update.
You can unlock Gaz by completing the Atomgrad Special Ops Raid or purchasing the Gaz Operator Bundle from the in-game store. Klaus can only be bought from the in-game store via the Klaus Operator Bundle.
- Little outside of heroic deeds and optimistic personality is known about the mythical operator Klaus.
- Gaz is a returning character featured in the original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. He was also heavily featured in MW2’s campaign.
Warzone Cup & Mini Royales in Warzone 2
For Rocket League and football fans, the Season 1 Reloaded update also adds the Warzone Cup, a game mode where players in ATVs try to score goals with a giant soccer ball.
Mini Royales are also being reintroduced in Warzone 2 as scheduled playlists. In these special royales, there are fewer players and smaller safe zones.
New Store Items
The mid-season update also introduces three in-game store updates with the Tracer Pack: Klaus Operator Bundle, the Dune Stalker Starter Pack, and the Year of the Rabbit bundle.

Groups in MW2 & Warzone 2
To help make new connections or team up with friends or family, Warzone 2 and MW2 are adding groups in the social menu to create communities of up to 5000 players.
These groups are based on similar desired game modes and playstyle preferences.
There are four categories to organize and invite people under; “Call of Duty–based,” “Vibe-based,” “Community-based,” and “Other categories.”
- Call of Duty–based
- Player experience level
- Game mode preferences
- Player hobbies and interests outside of Call of Duty
- How much time are players willing to commit to the game/how it fits in their life?
- Other categories
- Pre-existing friend groups or community groups outside of the game.
Groups will have the main language defined in its Privacy Settings and will have dedicated chat text channels per Group.
Essentially, Groups are a way for friends to easily team up and hang out, for players to meet new people, or for creators to interact with fans.
