MW2 and Warzone 2 implemented a new Battle Pass system for Season 1 that uses Battle Token Tier Skips and Combat Records to unlock rewards and new Operators.
It’ll allow players to take more control over what they unlock first. But to make the most of it, you’ll need to understand exactly how the system works and what Battle Token Tier Skips are.

How Does the Battle Pass Work in MW2 & Warzone 2?
The Battle Pass in MW2 and Warzone 2 uses a combat map made up of 21 different sectors that contain 5 different rewards that are obtained with Battle Token Tier Skips.
Instead of leveling up to the next tier, players will earn Battle Token Tier Skips, which they can use to chart their own course and prioritize specific rewards.
A Combat Sector is a collection of five rewards. One of these rewards is a High-Value Target (HVT), and to unlock it, you’ll need to unlock the four other rewards first.
To progress to different Combat Sectors, you need to unlock the HVT and then choose one of the adjacent sectors to progress to.
Here is every unlock you’ll find in the MW2 & Warzone 2 Season 1 Battle Pass!
So to progress from one sector to another, you will need to obtain 5 Battle Token Tier Skips. Each Combat Sector has a visual queue to give you a better idea of what is going on.
- Greyed Out – This a sector that you have yet to unlock.
- Green – This is an unlocked sector, but you have yet to acquire the HVT.
- Gold/Filled In – This is a sector for which you have already completed and obtained the HVT. You can access any sector adjacent to it.
How to Level Up MW2 & Warzone 2 Battle Pass
To level up the MW2 and Warzone 2 Battle Pass, players will need to play online matches to earn XP. Once a certain XP threshold has been reached, users will be rewarded with one Battle Token Tier Skip.
This can then unlock a reward of your choice from your unlocked sectors in the Battle Pass.
What Are Battle Token Tier Skips?
Battle Token Tier Skips in Warzone 2 is how players can unlock items in the different Season 1 Battle Pass sectors. They function similarly to Tiers in the original Warzone Battle Pass.
To unlock every sector in a Battle Pass, you will need to earn 100 Battle Token Tier Skips. If you’re doing the Free Battle Pass, you’ll only have 20 items to unlock.
How to Get Battle Token Tier Skips
You earn Battle Token Tier Skips by playing Warzone 2 matches and gaining XP. Once you earn a certain amount of XP, you’ll gain one Battle Token Tier Skip. This is exactly how Tiers worked in Warzone Caldera.
Although, with Battle Token Tier Skips, you have more control over what you unlock. Instead of everything being on one Tier Track, with Battle Token Tier Skips, you can control what items you need to unlock first.
Fastest Ways to Earn Battle Token Tier Skips
You can earn XP quickly by doing the following:
- Use Double XP Tokens.
- If you don’t have any, then you might be able to earn some with promotions.
- If you bought the MW2 Vault Edition, you should get quite a few Dual Double XP Tokens.
- There are always Double XP Weekends in MW2 that will reward all players with a weekend full of dual double XP.
- Completing Weapon Camo Challenges.
- These will also reward you with XP for completing weapon challenges.
- If you’re a Warzone 2 player, purchasing MW2 will also give you an added boost of XP.
Use these methods to quickly level up and gain more Battle Token Tier Skips to unlock rewards.
How Many Combat Sectors Are In A Battle Pass?
There are 21 different combat sectors in a Battle Pass. Each combat sector is divided into 5 different rewards that players can unlock using Battle Token Tier Skips, except sector A0, the Bonus Combat Sector, which only contains one reward.
If you are using the Free Battle Pass, you will only have 20 Combat Sectors with 20 Free rewards to unlock. To access Combat Sector A0 and the other 80 rewards, you’ll need to purchase the Battle Pass.
Free rewards will have a “Free” tag on the top of their image.
It can be a lot of information to take in, but thankfully, Call of Duty released a full video breakdown that you can watch below:
What Is the Battle Token Bank in MW2?
The Battle Token Bank stores all the Battle Tokens that players have collected through the MW2 and Warzone 2 Battle Pass.
These Tokens are used to unlock specific items in the different Combat Sectors presented with each Battle Pass.
You can see the Battle Token Bank on the bottom right of your screen when you are in the Combat Sector. After each match, your Battle Token Bank is highlighted to show how close you are to earning another token and how many you currently have.
Does the Battle Token Bank Transfer to Future Seasons?
No, any Battle Tokens earned during a season of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 do not transfer to the next season.
This means that any Battle Tokens in your Token Bank will expire at the end of the season.
It’s always best to use your Battle Tokens as you go so you can use the items you are unlocking as soon as possible.
Some tokens can even be used to unlock COD Points which you can then use to buy the next Battle Pass. Players have reported issues with their tokens not appearing in the Battle Token Bank at times.
Thankfully, there is a fix that players can use to prevent this from happening!
