There is, and always will be an overpowered weapon in every single Call of Duty.
This is a look at Call Of Duty's Meta throughout the years.
Since the beginning of Call of Duty, there has always been a hand full of weapons that have risen above the rest.
Due to their versatility, ease of use, and breakneck speed when it comes to their time to kill.
This is a look at every single overpowered weapon from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, to now.
Something to note is that we are talking about weapons as of right now, taking into account patches and weapon balancing updates as of the writing of this article.
Best Call of Duty Weapons Of All Time
Featured in: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
The M16A4 is easily regarded as the holy grail of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare due to its three-round burst, fast burst delay, and its zero recoil.
What made this gun overpowered, however, is the Stopping Power perk.
Taking its 3-4 shot kill down to a two-shot kill, meaning you could one burst enemies from any distance and have an extra bullet coming their way for good measure.
Featured in: Call of Duty: World at War
This submachine gun boasted assault rifle range dealing between 59 and 29 damage, allowing for a 2 shot kill up close.
The only fork in the road that being is a slow fire rate coming at 535 rounds per minute.
This was easily the best gun in the game being able to put people down with 2 bullets out of its 32 round mag.
However, Call of Duty: World at War has the "Double-Tap" perk allowing you to boost the fire rate from 535 rounds per minute all the way up to 711 rounds per minute. Making the MP40 an absolute beast.
Featured in: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Boasting respectable damage and an incredibly fast fire rate the ACR was a fan favorite, yet what made this weapon a menace in public lobbies was its incredible low recoil.
Allowing you to land all your shots at any range, the ACR is simply undisputed.
Featured in: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
We could not conclude this section without including the UMP45.
This submachine gun delivered 40 damage output to 666 rounds per minute and 850 with rapid-fire.
However, the reason we had to include this weapon on the list was due to its 1 shot kill range out to infinity in hardcode game modes; there will never be a more broken SMG than this gun.
Featured in: Call of Duty: Black Ops
Black Ops saw the return of the FAMAS, but not like it was previously seen in the franchise.
A controversial departure from the three-round burst in Modern Warfare 2 the Black Ops' FAMAS was a fully automatic assault rifle dealing 35 damage up close and 25 at range making it 3-4 shot kill.
What ascended this weapon to the God level tier was its incredible fire rate.
Coming in at 937 rounds per minute, even with the developer studio, Treyarch nerfing it early into its life cycle. The FAMAS remains the best weapon to use in multiplayer.
Featured in: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
The Modern Warfare trilogy ended with a bang, however, when it comes to multiplayer the return of the ACR was welcomed with open arms by the community for the exact same reason listed above.
The ACR 6.8 followed the same formula as its predecessor:
Respectable damage + an incredible fire rate + zero recoil = the most overpowered weapon in the game. Its simple math really.
Featured in: Call of Duty: Black Ops II
Easily dominated the multiplayer scene during the Call of Duty: Black Ops II life cycle.
The M8A1 was a burst weapon that fired 4 rounds at a time, dealing 35 damage and requiring only 3 bullets to kill.
The kicker was the fire rate coming in at 1250 rounds per minute and kept the burst as tight as possible.
This weapon was "aim, shoot and forget about it," the target would be neutralized in the blink of an eye.
Featured in: Call of Duty: Ghosts
Regarded as one of the most balanced Call of Duty of all time, this game only had one outlier.
MTAR-X: The in-game description for this weapon stated that it was:
"Fully automatic. Rifle-class range with large ammo capacity and SMG handling."
It was just that, a submachine gun with assault rifle range and very low recoil. Dealing 40 damage, capable of putting enemies down in just 3 shots.
Nevertheless, what made this weapon overpowered was the 810 rounds per minute fire rate that could be boosted to 953 rounds per minute with rapid-fire.
Featured in: Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
This game was dubbed "Bal of Duty: Advanced Warfare" due to how strong this gun was during the game's life cycle.
Killing in 4-6 shots with a steady 700 rounds per minute and zero recoil makes this weapon extremely forgiving.
Featured in: Call of Duty: Black Ops III
Our first shotgun entry is the 205 Brecci, firing at 212 rounds per minute. This semi-automatic shotgun can neutralize enemies in 1-2 shots.
The insane reload time and its tight hip-fire spread made it a prevalent option during the life cycle of Call of Duty: Black Ops III.
It was overpowered at launch, and Treyarch never thought to nerf this weapon.
To this day, the 205 Brecci might be the most overpowered shotgun in Call of Duty's history.
Featured in: Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
This run of the mill assault rifle unlocked at level 1 seemed to be pretty standard until you factor in the fact that it had no recoil and did 30 damage.
Infamously known for its incredibly consistent 3 shot kill range and ease of use. This gun dominated the assault rifle category in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
Featured in: Call of Duty: WWII
Easily the most overpowered rifle in Call of Duty: WWII due to its amazing stopping power and low recoil.
The BAR has a fire of 571 rounds per minute and 612 with rapid-fire.
Sledgehammer Games, the developing studio, decided to balance this by only giving it a 20 round mag. However, the extended mag unlocked at level 10 easily fixed that.
Featured in: Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 & Blackout
The Swordfish was a 4 round burst tactical rifle with an uncanny resemblance to the M8A1 from Call of Duty Black Ops 4.
The caveat being that Black Ops 4 saw a few changes to the Call of Duty formula. The most important change was the health pool being increased from 100 to 150.
The Swordfish needed two bursts to secure the kill, what made this weapon overpowered was the operator mod.
The Operator Mod was a "super attachment" that cost three-class point our of the 10 available in the "pick 10" create a class system.
The Swordfish's Operator Mod was called the "Penta Burst" taking the 4 round burst to a 5 round burst.
The Penta burst made the Swordfish into one burst kill, in a game where the time to kill is almost triple of the previous Call of Duty.
Coupled with a small burst delay and zero recoils, the Swordfish nullifies enemy players and stop them in their tracks.

Without a shadow of a doubt, the M4A1 follows the Overpowered meta to the "T".
Showcasing moderate stopping power, an incredible fire rate, and extremely low recoil.
The M4A1 has dominated Modern Warfare (2019) well past its life cycle. It is regarded as the most overpowered weapon in the game.
Featured in: Call of Duty: Warzone
The DMR 14 is the most overpowered weapon in Warzone as of right now.
With its extremely long-range and 400 round per minute fire rate this tactical rifle can put down full armored enemies in just a few shots.
As fans pressure the developers to nerf this weapon only time will tell how long this weapon will stay on top of the meta.
However, if you're going to use this gun it's vital you use the best DMR-14 class for Warzone.
Featured in: Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
For the same reason that the Swordfish rose above the ranks in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
Once the time to kill is raised north of 300ms, burst rifles really start to shine, especially when you factor in the M16 massive one burst kill range.
You'll want to choose expertly chosen attachments from our best M16 class in Cold War guide.
This weapon boasts the fastest time to kill out of the entire game at just 132ms.
Treyarch has nerfed it twice since the launch of Black Ops Cold War. However, it remains at the top of the meta.
The M16 is, without a doubt Black Ops Cold War's most OP weapon.
There you have it; the most overpowered weapons throughout the years. Do you disagree with one or think we've missed any?
