A new error has surfaced in Call of Duty Modern Warfare, following the release of a brand new update. The error message seems to be appearing for several different players, although it appears to mostly occur on PC – and sometimes PS4 and Xbox One.

After attempting to download Modern Warfare Update 1.13, players have reported the following error message:

“Your data is corrupt and didn’t download properly. You must reset your rank and unlocks to continue.”

It’s unclear as to why this message is appearing. Fortunately, Infinity Ward has provided a comment on the matter. They have warned users not to press either of the options, even though they might seem tempting. Instead, the developers have advised players to hard close the application.

This isn’t the first time such an issue has occurred. In past Call of Duty games, players have experienced similar problems.

As disappointing as it might seem, players are going to have to wait until a fix. This might seem rather daunting when a new Modern Warfare update is out in the wild, but you can back your bottom dollar that Infinity Ward is working promptly on a fix as we speak.

We’ll update this article as and when Infinity Ward shares more information on the matter. In the meantime, you can look through the latest MW patch notes.

Potential Fix for Modern Warfare Data Corruption Error

If you’re still experiencing the issue, try the following steps on either PS4 or Xbox One. This fix has been recommended by the community, although it’s not guaranteed to work for everybody.

  • Relaunch the game.
  • When it says “Connecting to Online Services,” press Circle/B right away
  • Then go offline mode and go to Multiplayer.
  • You should then get a download for Multiplayer.

If this doesn’t work, then you can always try restarting your console.
