Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launches later this year but we’ll have a chance to go hands-on with the Open Beta very soon.
If you just can’t wait to get your hands on the game, the wait is almost over. Fans on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC will all get the chance to try before they buy, thanks to the MW2 Open Beta in September.
But some lucky fans don’t even have to wait that long. After all, we just got our first in-game look at Modern Warfare 2’s DMZ mode from early playtesters.
Modern Warfare 2 Beta Release Date & Time
The MW2 Open Beta kicked off Friday, September 16 at 10 AM PT, first on PlayStation. The full Beta schedule is as follows:
Weekend One (PlayStation Exclusive):
- PlayStation Early Access – September 16-17
- PlayStation Open Beta – September 18-20
Weekend Two (Crossplay):
- PC + Xbox Early Access & PlayStation Open Beta 2 – September 22-23
- All Platforms Open Beta – September 24-26

This is a worldwide countdown timer, all regions will gain access simultaneously.
However, as with last weekend’s Beta, we expect that Infinity Ward could put the trial up an hour early.

The Modern Warfare 2 Beta will conclude on Monday, September 26 at the following times:
- 10 AM PT
- 1 PM ET
- 6 PM BST

How Long Is the Modern Warfare 2 Open Beta?
The MW2 Open Beta will be live for 10 days in total, at least for those with Early Access on PlayStation. Xbox and PC users with Early Access will have access to 5 days of the Beta.
PlayStation users without Early Access will still be able to enjoy 8 days of Open Beta. But Xbox and PC players will only get 3 days of MW2 action by default.
Will Infinity Ward Extend the Modern Warfare 2 Open Beta?
It’s possible that Infinity Ward could extend the Modern Warfare 2 Open Beta, giving fans more time to play. After all, the Call of Duty Vanguard second Beta weekend ended up being extended for 2 additional days.
In addition, the Black Ops Cold War Open Beta also received a 24-hour extension, after fans on Twitter successfully solved a series of coded messages sent out by Activision.
However, it’s worth noting that neither of those games were developed by Infinity Ward, a studio that did not extend its Modern Warfare 2019 Beta. Only time will tell as to whether the MW2 Beta receives the extension fans are hoping for.
