Something is brewing behind the scenes at Microsoft as rumors begin to swirl about their plans for Bethesda’s biggest franchises.
Lots of gamers are keen to know more information about Bethesda’s biggest franchises. Be it The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, or the upcoming sci-fi RPG Starfield. But despite its success, the future of Bethesda is uncertain.
Now we don’t mean that the company is at risk or anything of the sort, but Bethesda will soon change forever. This is due to their parent company ZeniMax recently getting purchased by Microsoft.
In fact, the $7.5 billion acquisition was approved by the EU yesterday, so now it’s official. Therefore, it makes sense for Microsoft to make a statement soon and declare their intentions for Bethesda going forward.
Amid speculation that some franchises will become Xbox exclusives, reports indicated that Bethesda was pushing through deals with Sony. Before the ink on the buyout dried that is.
While these reports could be exaggerations, Bethesda likely knows plenty of things we don’t. They may also not agree with all of Microsoft’s plans and potentially made moves to secure a future they felt was more favorable to them.
Although it’s doubtful that Bethesda would have done anything to frustrate or hinder the acquisition intentionally. Both companies have made positive statements about it in the past, and it could only have succeeded through mutual cooperation.
Rumors of a Bethesda conference taking place in March have been doing the rounds since last month. There’s also speculation that Bethesda will finally reveal more details about Elder Scrolls 6.
Microsoft’s Bethesda Conference Coming Soon?
According to a report from Venturebeat, Microsoft may be holding their Bethesda conference this Thursday on the 11th of March 2021.
The event has been described as a “Games Showcase,” meaning it’s likely to show off projects that we already know about. So those expecting to see some Starfield or Fallout 5 don’t get your hopes up.
But we may be given some form of update on ES6. We also imagine Microsoft will be keen to inform the world about what their Bethesda acquisition will mean going forward.
It’s unlikely that either company will reveal all of their secrets, such as which games will inevitably become Xbox exclusives. But the event could give us an update on the immediate future of Bethesda
And this alone could be very telling. Of course, until Microsoft gives us official confirmation of the event then take this news with a pinch of salt.
But we imagine an update of some description is coming soon. Microsoft has two new Xbox consoles to sell this summer. News of some shiny new exclusive games will make life much easier for them in the face of the mighty PS5.
Until then, fancy seeing an Elden Ring leak? Of course you do.
In other Xbox news, the FPS boost gives older Xbox games a new lease on life on the Series X.
We’ve also got confirmation that the Xbox Cloud Gaming service is going fully HD.
