Microsoft Officially Acquiring Activision Blizzard for $68.7 Billion

In what might be the biggest gaming news of the decade, Microsoft is officially acquiring Activision Blizzard for a staggering $68.7 billion.

Microsoft is confirming its plans to acquire Activision, publisher of Call of Duty, Overwatch, World of Warcraft, and more. The tremendous purchase is shocking fans around the world, especially when considering the price tag Microsoft has paid.

In 2021, the company paid out $7.5 billion for its acquisition of ZeniMax, parent company of Bethesda. Since then, Xbox has confirmed that Starfield and the Elder Scrolls 6 will be exclusive to Microsoft platforms.

Now, as Microsoft confirms a buyout almost 10 times as large for Activision Blizzard, the future of all Activision titles is up in the air.

Could Modern Warfare 2 be Xbox exclusive after this new acquisition too? Only time will tell.

Microsoft Confirms Activision Blizzard Joining Xbox Team

Unbelievably, Microsoft is confirming that Activision Blizzard is joining the team over at Xbox after a purchase of epic proportions.

Not only will Microsoft soon own the likes of World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, Candy Crush and more, but all major franchises could soon fall under Xbox’s roof.

What’s more, after recent controversies leveled against Activision Blizzard, the company will now report to Xbox Boss Phil Spencer.

“As a company, Microsoft is committed to our journey for inclusion in every aspect of gaming, among both employees and players” Phil Spencer writes. “

Spencer continued on, revealing that Xbox believes that “creative success and autonomy go hand-in-hand with treating every person with dignity and respect. We hold all teams, and all leaders, to this commitment.”

This deal is ready to shake up the gaming industry in a big way. Just look at all the new games and franchises Microsoft now owns!

Xbox Game Pass just got some insane new January additions, and now its library is growing even bigger. When the deal with Activision is complete, Xbox Game Pass will feature as many games as possible from Activision Blizzard’s catalog.

What’s more, new games will also appear on Xbox Game Pass meaning the likes of Overwatch 2 or a new Call of Duty will be dropping on Day One.
