Battlefield 2042 has an incredible new Portal mode for community contributions, but can you make a battle royale mode in it?
In case you missed it, we just got an insane new Battlefield 2042 trailer featuring Portal mode. The previously redacted game mode is a love letter to the Battlefield franchise, bringing back old content and allowing players to create wacky and unbalanced game modes.
In this mode, you can experience the very best of what the Battlefield franchise has to offer. Old vehicles, weapons, and even a selection of remastered maps will reappear in Battlefield 2042‘s Portal mode.
But what’s really impressive is that players can edit settings to create their own Battlefield 2042 game modes. And this could be exactly what’s attracting so many content creators to the game already.
Sadly, however, we have no news on a Battlefield 2042 battle royale just yet. So can we use Battlefield 2042’s Portal mode to make a battle royale of our own?
Battlefield 2042 Portal Mode Battle Royale?
Sadly, Battlefield 2042’s Portal mode will not let players create their own battle royale, confirms Thomas Andersson, Studio Creative Director at Ripple Effect studio.
Formally known as DICE LA, Ripple Effect is responsible for Battlefield 2042’s new Portal mode. So when the Studio Creative Director says that we can’t build a battle royale right now, we’re inclined to believe him.
In a new interview with YouTuber JackFrags, Andersson had this to say:
“I don’t want people to have the illusion that you can, so I don’t want to overpromise those things. Again, we’ll keep monitoring to see what people want to create but there’s plenty of infrastructure around battle royales that we’re not supporting for launch.”
It seems that Ripple Effect is leaving the door open for the possibility of a battle royale coming in the future, however. But we can’t expect the mode to be available at launch, as much as we’d like to see it.
With a lot of Warzone players leaving the game due to cheaters, it’s a shame that Battlefield won’t be able to offer a new battle royale. However, between Portal mode and standard multiplayer, there’s a lot to enjoy in Battlefield 2042 already.
And we even know more about what’s coming to Battlefield 2042 after launch!
Be sure to sign up for the Battlefield 2042 open beta here! New reports indicate that the trial could go live in September, which doesn’t leave us with much more time to prepare.
In the meantime, players can play both Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 5 for free in the lead-up to launch. But, does is the new Battlefield 2042 Ultimate Edition Pay to Win already?
