PS5 stock is still low in the run-up to Christmas. Some fans had finally secured a console, only to learn that the retailer they chose is now canceling PS5 orders.
Imagine trying to get your hands on a PS5 console since launch but coming up short every time. Then a week away from Christmas, you finally manage to secure one, only for your order to be canceled by the retailer in question.
We can see why there are some angry people on the internet today. Stock shortages, COVID, scalpers, pick your poison. It’s been a challenging launch period.
No sooner does stock appear at one retailer than they sell out within minutes. For that retailer to then start canceling PS5 orders may represent the straw that broke the camel’s back.
It may also mean that some people sadly don’t get to open a PS5 on Christmas morning as they had hoped. But why are retailers canceling PS5 orders? What’s going on?
Walmart Under Fire for Apparently Cancelling PS5 Orders
It looks like the answer to what’s going on is a simple system issue. It appears that Walmart’s system approved more orders than stock was available.
Meaning some of the customers that ordered PS5s through Walmart are inevitably going to be disappointed. While the issue doesn’t seem particularly widespread, it’s bound to cause those affected to be upset.
In truth, we can’t say we blame them. Mistakes happen, but for many people trying to order a PS5, this may represent the most recent in a long line of disappointments.
To add insult to injury, those who’ve had their orders canceled have had it done unceremoniously by the system without a reason given to them.
At this point in time, Walmart hasn’t addressed the issue. It seems likely that the retailer is investigating the problem to get to the bottom of what’s happened.
Some even suggested it may be a way to fight scalpers. Whose efforts to secure PS5 consoles have become even more extreme.
But this is yet to be confirmed.
If you’ve ordered a PS5 through Walmart, we’d advise you to check your email. We sincerely hope you’ve not been affected by them canceling PS5 orders without warning.
Don't forget, BestBuy also has PS5 Christmas stock coming.
