Major April PS5 System Update Adds External Storage Support & More – Patch Notes

Here’s everything you can expect in the latest PS5 system update.

The first major system update for the PS5 will be launching tomorrow. It comes with a few great changes that all PlayStation fans will be happy to see.

Find out all of the changes coming in the new PS5 system update below.

PS5 USB Storage Expansion

PS5 owners were disappointed to find out that there was no support for storage expansion at the console’s launch. This system update hasn’t added that exactly, but there is a clever way that PS5 players can now store games.

Gamers can now copy their PS5 games to USB drives. This means that you can keep all your games that you don’t have space for on your consoles on a USB instead.

Copying the game back onto your PS5 from a USB will be much quicker than downloading it from scratch again, saving you loads of time. Although you can’t play games directly from the USB.

Cross-Gen Share Play With PS4 & PS5

Thanks to the new system update, gamers with PS4 and PS5 consoles can now use share play together! This means that PS4 players can watch and play their friends’ PS5 games on their last-gen console.

PS5 players can already Gameshare with other PS5 users, but this could be a total game-changer. It will really bring the whole PlayStation ecosystem together.

Pre-Download PS5 Game Updates

Some games have huge updates that are dozens of gigabytes. This new feature in the PS5 system update lets you pre-download updates so they are ready to play as soon as they are released.

Just make sure you have the ‘automatic updates’ setting enabled and you’ll be able to play the latest updates as soon as they are released.

This is especially handy with the huge new Season 3 update for Black Ops Cold War and Warzone right around the corner.

System Update Accessibility & Trophy Improvements

The new PS5 system update comes with a few little extras that will make the PS5 experience even smoother. Accessibility features like screen zoom, an improved Game Base, and being able to adjust the volume of everyone in your party are all welcome additions.

The patch also brings a new Trophies Stats screen which will let you see your trophy level and status easily. Be sure to check out the full PlayStation Blog post to see a detailed rundown on all of these changes.
