A new leak has suggested a Fortnite crossover with Tomb Raider, potentially bringing Lara Croft to the game in the form of a new skin.
When Fortnite first announced that season 5's theme would be "hunters", fans scrambled to speculate what it could mean. More specifically though, they wondered who would be arriving in-game in skin form.
Some original characters came to the game, along with Star Wars' The Mandalorian. He's also an NPC too, but players are concerned he's too overpowered.
The season has also seen Kratos from God of War, Daryl and Michonne from The Walking Dead, and Halo's Master Chief. No matter the size of the franchise they stem from, Fortnite has been consistently providing some incredibly exciting skins.
Now that The Predator challenges have kicked off with a new skin to boot, players are once again brainstorming who could come to the game, and who fits the bill of iconic hunters to fit the season's theme.
The latest rumor has come to light through a combination of cryptic messages and code found by data miners.
Is Lara Croft Joining Fortnite?
A new crossover skin has been found in Fortnite's code by popular data miner Mang0e, and it is codenamed "Typhoon".
Often codenames like this don't provide much connection to the final character, but fans think otherwise on this occasion. Players believe that it is a reference to the opening of the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot, wherein Lara is stranded on an island after a storm destroys her ship.
The code states that it will be a female character with "reactive styles". This could mean many things, but it's thought that this means the skin would become more bloody and bandaged as the player receives more damage. It would be a first for Fortnite, but perfect for such an iconic character.
These rumors have stirred incredible fan excitement. One Twitter user has even mocked up a concept for Lara Croft's Fortnite skin, based on her earlier video game appearances;
Tomb Raider Tweets Fortnite Reference
While fans have been speculating Lara's introduction to Fortnite, the official Tomb Raider Twitter account has been teasing even more.
In a recent post, the Tomb Raider posted a series of emojis, featuring a pickaxe, running woman and bow & arrow.
It's possible this is simply another tweet to keep people interested in Tomb Raider's accounts, but the pickaxe is a curious choice.
Lara has used a pickaxe in her games before, but not frequently enough to be an iconic tool of hers. Of course, with Fortnite's harvesting tools, many have taken this tweet as confirmation of Lara's inclusion in the game.
Players have also speculated who the skin could be if these rumors turn out to be false. Some have imagined that Samus Aran from Nintendo's Metroid series fits the bill, and could take Lara's place.
Nintendo is yet to contribute a character to Fortnite's roster of skins, and Samus definitely makes sense to join with the other hunters.
