Nintendo fans all over the world are desperate to play their games in 4K, but is Nintendo actually working on a 4K definition Switch Pro model?
Nintendo released the Switch all the way back in 2017 now, making it over 4 years old. In the grand scheme of things, 4 years doesn’t sound that long, but it’s much longer in gaming terms.
The technology has improved a lot since 2017, so many Nintendo fans are hoping to see a new Switch model with 4K support in the near future.
Luckily, Nintendo has responded to rumors, and given a definitive answer to whether it is making a 4K Switch Pro.
But first, check out everything announced at the September Nintendo Direct.
Is a Switch Pro With 4K Support in Development?
Back in July, Nintendo claimed that a 4K Switch Pro was not in development. However, since then, there have been plenty of rumors to suggest otherwise.
For instance, Jeff Grubb claimed that Nintendo could still be working on a 4K Switch with DLSS.
These rumors culminated in reports that Nintendo had already sent out 4K Switch dev kits to game studios. However, Nintendo has now responded to these reports.
In a new statement on the Nintendo Twitter account, the company clarifies that the “report is not true”. Meanwhile, later in the statement, Nintendo completely ruled out working on any other Switch apart from the OLED model right now.
“We have no plans for any new model other than Nintendo Switch – OLED Model.”Nintendo
The Switch OLED pre-orders sold out in minutes, despite a lot of fan backlash at the new iteration of the console. Many fans were hoping for a 4K Switch, so they hated the announcement of the Switch OLED, which is only a small upgrade.
Unfortunately, it looks like these fans will remain disappointed for the foreseeable future, following Nintendo’s statement.
Let’s hope that Nintendo does eventually get round to making a 4K Switch Pro. It would be great to play Breath of the Wild 2 in 4K!
Update: One of the studios alleged to have a 4K Switch game kit, Zynga, has told Kotaku that they “do not have a 4k developer kit from Nintendo”. This makes the possibility of a 4K Switch Pro in the near future even less likely.
Meanwhile, Nintendo fans can’t wait for the huge new Animal Crossing New Horizons content update in November. It will bring back a beloved character from the series too!
Plus, Nintendo has also teased the story mode and new weapons in Splatoon 3. Fans of the series will be excited to visit Splatsville for the first time.
Additionally, even Pokemon fans have something to look forward to right now. A new Pokemon Legends Arceus trailer has dropped, revealing Noble Pokemon.
