After months of waiting, the highly-anticipated God of War Ragnarok is available now on PS4 and PS5.
Although it’s only just been released, some fans are eager to find out if they’ll be more or if the Norse story concludes with God of War Ragnarok. Fortunately, we have the answers below.
Will There Be Another Game After God of War Ragnarok?
Unfortunately, God of War 2018 creative director Cory Barlog and Ragnarok game director Eric Williams have confirmed that God of War Ragnarok will be the last game in the Norse series.
This is because it would take Santa Monica Studio roughly another five years to create a sequel, and Barlog feels a span of 15 years is “just too stretched out” for a single story. However, there is more to come.

In an interview last year with YouTuber Kaptain Kuba, Barlog confirmed that there will only be two games in the Norse series for God of War. God of War Ragnarok will conclude this chapter of God of War.
“I think one of the most important reasons is the first game took five years, the second game, I don’t know how long it’s going to take…and then if you think, wow, a third one in that same [amount of time], we’re talking like a span of close to 15 years of a single story, and I feel like that’s just too stretched out,” said Barlog.
However, in an interview with Kotaku in 2018, God of War’s (2018) Barlog stated that he had five more games mapped out, including the now-released God of War Ragnarok. Whether they will actually see release after his later statements is unclear.
What’s Next For God of War?
Though Barlog did mention after the God of War (2018) that more was in the works, his 2021 interview with Kaptin Kuba seems to complicate that.
In the interview, Barlog only refers to the Norse series as a two-game deal but did not detail whether his early hopes of five games have fallen through.
With God of War Ragnarok pre-orders quickly sold out and over 23 million in sales for God of War 2018, according to the latest Sony earnings report, more for the franchise seems likely.

In the earnings report, Sony said, “we expect similar performance from this new title [God of War Ragnarok] as well.”
Though critical acclaim does not make sales, the high review scores and pure amount of coverage the game has gotten virtually guaranteed a continuation of the franchise shortly.
With all this considered, it is unlikely that God of War Ragnarok will be the last we see of the series.
Is God of War Ragnarok The End of Kratos?
No, Ragnarok is not the end of Kratos given the great sales of the reboot and the sales expectations of God of War Ragnarok, as well as Barlog’s previous statements.
Though Barlog appears to have reversed course regarding the Norse series, whether the five games he mentioned will eventually happen outside of the series is unclear.

But to find out the fates of Kratos and Atreus, players must play through God of War Ragnarok’s lengthy campaign to discover it.
Whether or not Ragnarok spells the end for God of War’s titular hero remains to be seen.
What Happens in God of War Ragnarok?
Picking up after the events of God of War 2018, Kratos and Atreus must deal with the consequences of their actions in the previous game. So they begin a second journey to stop the end of the world, Ragnarok.

Baulder’s death and Kratos’ killing of Magni and Modi strained relationships and all but guaranteed more conflict to arise. All the while, Atreus is still dealing with his newfound identity as part god and part giant, and Kratos with his long brutal past.
Santa Monica Studio’s next epic action-adventure game, God of War Ragnarok, is packed with content and concludes the Norse series.
