Bad news for those still to beat The Tomb’s boss fight, as the exploit that used the Staff of Ice and Hand Cannon to deal massive damage has already been patched.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies players abusing a bug to dish out enormous damage values on The Tomb are in for a rude awakening the next time they boot up the game.
An exploit, which involved holding out a Hand Cannon while using the upgraded Staff of Ice’s AOE attack– thereby tricking the game into thinking that each point of damage was actually coming from the Scorestreak – has now been patched.
And not all Zombies fans are happy with the change.
Treyarch Nerfs Hand Cannon Exploit in Black Ops 6 Zombies
As part of its February 3 patch, Treyarch reveals that it has fixed the Ice Staff + Hand Cannon exploit, removing the bug that allowed players to kill Elite Zombies instantly.
The patch notes read:
- Closed an exploit where the Hand Cannon was causing boosted damage well outside the range of designed balance.
The developer also left a note to the players, emphasizing that while it usually encourages creative strategies and speedrun tactics, this exploit was cheapening the Zombies experience:
“This was a case where an unintended exploit allowed players to trivialize parts of the mode we all love, and could cheapen the experience of reaching high rounds or completing the Main Quest, which should feel like an accomplishment.”
But not all fans agree with the developer’s assessment, pointing out that there are many ways to cheese higher rounds that seem to have been completely intentional.
Prior to the patch, the Hand Cannon exploit was the easiest way to beat The Tomb’s notoriously difficult final boss.
The boss fight, which we won’t spoil for you here, requires players to dish out an incredible amount of damage in many of its waves, which made the exploit a lifesaver for players struggling to beat it.
And with only so much time left until The Tomb’s Directed Mode arrives, the chance to earn an exclusive Calling Card for beating the map early is nearly lost.
