How to Upgrade Spells
Players must complete Percival Rackham’s Trial to unlock Talents and use Talent Points to upgrade their spells in Hogwarts Legacy.
- Unlock Map Chamber & Talents
- Gain Talent Points by Leveling Up
- Use Talent Points to Upgrade Spells
How to Unlock Talents
To unlock Talents to upgrade your spells in Hogwarts Legacy, you must complete Percival Rackham’s Trial and speak to Rackham’s Painting.
Percival Rackham’s Trial is the twentieth main quest in Hogwarts Legacy. It begins when players speak to Professor Fig.

Once you’ve spoken with Professor Fig and initiated the quest, you must investigate a goblin camp. In this camp, you’ll find a painting of Percival Rackham. Speak to it, and you’ll initiate the trials, which involve a series of puzzles and battles.
After you’ve completed the trial, you’ll end up in the Map Chamber, where you’ll see Percival Rackham’s painting again.
Speak to it, and you’ll unlock Talents. Talents are a variety of upgrades that players can apply to better their spells, potion usage, and even the Room of Requirement items.
Talents are a huge help and can completely change your playstyle. Make sure to spend some time reading about each one and what the best Talents are.
How to Gain Talent Points
You must level up your character in Hogwarts Legacy to gain Talent Points. Every time you level up, you’ll receive one Talent Point.
Here are some tips to help you level up quickly and gain Talent Points:
- Use Battle Arenas to level up and improve your battle skills quickly.
- Fight Infamous Foes to get a large boost of XP.
- You can find the location of all Infamous Foes here.
- Explore the world of Hogwarts Legacy and clear out bandit camps or find Treasure Vaults.
- Complete Wizard Field Guide pages.
- Find Ancient Magic Hotspots to increase your Ancient Magic Meter to fight more powerful foes.
You can see your current amount of Talent Points in the top left of the Talents menu.

How to Use Talent Points to Upgrade Spells
To upgrade your spells in Hogwarts Legacy, you must use Talent Points and unlock Talents for Spells and Dark Arts.
Talents are split into five sections; Spells, Dark Arts, Core, Stealth, and Room of Requirement. You must focus on the Spells and Dark Arts sections to upgrade spells.

When you upgrade a spell, it usually gains a new property that helps it affect more enemies and become more useful in battle.
For example, when you upgrade Levioso, you can levitate multiple enemies with a single cast. It is very helpful and will dramatically improve your options during battles.
All Broom Upgrades & Tips
Players can unlock three broom upgrades by defeating Imelda Reyes’ Time Trials for Mr. Weekes in Spintwitches Sporting Needs.
You can upgrade your broom a total of 3 times. Each of these upgrades will increase your broom’s speed and acceleration. But defeating the time trials is no easy feat.

The time trials you must complete will appear as side quests in Hogwarts Legacy. These side quests include:
- Flight Test Side Quest
- Sweeping The Competition Side Quest
- The Sky Is The Limit Side Quest
You can see an in-depth guide for each quest here.

Although, if you’d rather fly in style, a Hippogriff could also help you navigate Hogwarts Legacy through the skies.
But it does raise the question, is a fully upgraded broom faster than a Hippogriff?
