How to Turn PlayStation 5 From Vertical to Horizontal

New details are finally arriving, letting fans know that it is indeed possible to turn the PS5 from vertical to horizontal.

In regards to both power and size, the PlayStation 5 is a real beast of a console. Fans have been worried that the device won’t fit into their home entertainment systems.

Given the console’s upright orientation in all the marketing, fans have been waiting patiently for word that we can in fact lie the console on its side. Now, we can confirm that yes, the PS5 can be placed horizontally.

However, to do so isn’t as simple as just laying the device on its side. Given the PS5’s unusual shape, you’ll have to make some adjustments when turning it from vertical to horizontal.

Ultimately, it comes down to the device’s custom base, and you’ll actually need a screwdriver just to turn the console.

How to Turn PS5 to Horizontal

In a recent video showing the teardown of the PS5 console, fans were treated to a short demonstration. Yasuhiro Ootori, Sony’s VP of Mechanical Design, shows fans exactly how to turn the PS5 horizontally.

As we can see in the video, a large screw on the base will first need to be unscrewed. That screw can then be stored inside the base, and a cap can be taken from storage to plug the PS5’s bottom port.

The base can then be physically twisted, changing it from vertical to horizontal mode. In its new form, it can attach to the PS5 in two areas marked by a series of iconic PlayStation symbols at the rear of the device.

Then, as easy as that, the PlayStation 5 can move from its vertical to horizontal orientations. While the process is very easy to accomplish, it’s not quite as simple as some users may wish.

With this new generation of consoles constantly being shown off vertically, perhaps gamers will choose to display them similarly. However, for those who are looking to squeeze the bulky hardware into a TV cabinet, that just won’t do.

It’s a great time to be a PlayStation fan, and Sony’s reveal that the faceplates are completely removable has got a lot of people excited. Already, custom PS5 designs are arriving online.

It’s only a matter of time before we start to see some of these images become a reality. What’s more, with the announcement that these PS4 game saves work on PS5, the upcoming release couldn’t arrive sooner.
