Rest Mode on PS5 seems to be causing some controversy since the console was released. Here’s what you can do to avoid these issues.
PS5 players are experiencing crashes, bugs and issues with storage all while the going into or coming out of rest mode. At this stage we can’t confirm that rest mode is causing the issue, but it does seem to be the common denominator.
Sony is yet to directly address the problem and provide a fix. So, for now, we need to come up with our own temporary solution. That is until a patch is released that hopefully fixes whatever this problem is.
A number of PS5 owners have reported their own incidents here on Reddit, making the issue rather widespread. It’s also happening with a variety of different games and PS5 functions.
Including Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Godfall and simply turning the PS5 on from the DualSense controller when it's been in rest mode.
Turning Rest Mode on PS5 Off
It seems that for now, simply turning rest mode off is the best solution. This may be the safest thing to do until Sony offer some clarity.
Now there’s no option to disable rest mode on PS5 entirely, but the function can be avoided fairly easily. For starters, when you’re done playing, we’d recommend powering it down completely instead of selecting rest mode. At least for now.
To avoid your console entering rest mode when idle, you can prevent this from happening in the system settings. From the PS5 home page, select the little cog to enter the ‘Settings’ menu.
From here, select the ‘Power Saving’ menu. You’ll then see an option called ‘Set Time Until PS5 Enters Rest Mode. Then select the bottom option which is, ‘Don’t Put in Rest Mode’.
This will prevent rest mode becoming a default setting, should the console be idle for a while. But when it comes to turning it on and off, that’s up to you.
We imagine Sony will provide an update about this problem soon. This will hopefully mean we can utilize rest mode on PS5 again without worrying about errors and bugs, including the PS5 Rest Mode bricking consoles.
Remember there’s an important difference between putting your PS5 in rest mode and turning the console off completely. Some people may use one feature thinking it’s the other.
If you're experiencing any other bugs or errors on PS5 here's how to solve the ones that have been reported so far.
We’ll keep you updated as and when Sony provide a solution.
