The well-received mechanic to teach and delete moves introduced in Legends Arceus is back in Scarlet and Violet, making it easier than ever to manage attacks in a mainline Pokemon game!
How Do I Teach Pokemon New Moves in Scarlet & Violet?
Pokemon learn new moves in Scarlet and Violet by leveling up when gaining XP from battles or using a TM. If a Pokemon has fewer than four attacks and wants to learn a new move when leveling up, it will automatically learn it.
However, if the Pokemon has four attacks already, it will ask the trainer if they want to replace one of the old moves with the new one.

How Do I Teach a TM Move to a Pokemon?
To teach a TM move to a Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet, you must access that Pokemon’s summary from the Main Menu, select Rearrange Moves, and use a TM to teach the new move.
- Open the Main Menu by pressing the “X” button.
- Use the left stick or D-Pad to navigate to the Pokemon you want to learn a TM move on the left side of the screen and select it with the “A” button.
- Select “Check summary.”

- Press the “A” button to enter the “Change Moves” option.
- Select the “Use TMs to learn moves*” option from the list.
*Pro-Tip: If you do not have the move you want, TM Moves can be crafted in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

- Select the TM move you want the Pokemon to learn from the list presented.

- Then, select the move you want the Pokemon to forget to learn the TM move you want.
- Complete the process by choosing “Yes”.

How Do I Make a Pokemon Remember Moves in Scarlet & Violet?
To make a Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet remember or relearn an attack, you should access that Pokemon’s summary from the Main Menu, select Rearrarange moves, and choose to Remember Moves.
- Open the Main Menu by pressing the “X” button.
- Use the left stick or D-Pad to navigate to the Pokemon you want to relearn an attack on the left side of the screen and select it with the “A” button.
- Select “Check summary”.

- Press the “A” button to enter the “Change Moves” option.
- Select the “Remember moves” option from the list.

- Select the move you want the Pokemon to remember from the list.

- Then, select the move you want the Pokemon to forget to relearn the move you want.
- Complete the process by choosing “Yes”.

To forget a move in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, access the Pokemon’s summary from the Main Menu, select Rearrarange moves, and choose to Forget a move.
