Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s first piece of DLC, The Teal Mask, is releasing soon, and players will definitely need to know how they start it before jumping in.
To start The Teal Mask DLC, you’ll need to have reached a specific point in the base game. It’s largely for story reasons so that the DLC’s narrative actually makes sense.
Below, we explain exactly where you need to get up to in order to start the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet DLC, The Teal Mask.
How to Start The Teal Mask DLC
Players can begin playing The Teal Mask DLC after they have started the Treasure Hunt in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.
Once you’ve started your Treasure Hunt, you’ll get a call from Professor Jacq, who invites you to join the school trip to Kitakami. Head inside the school entrance and speak to Ms. Briar to begin the DLC.
You’ll need to speak to Ms. Briar for a second time in order to immediately travel to Kitakami and properly begin the DLC.
It takes roughly 3 hours for the average player to reach the start of their Treasure Hunt in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.
The Treasure Hunt begins after you have reached the Academy in Mesagoza, completed your first school day, and have spoken to Director Clavell after his speech.
Once the Treasure Hunt has begun, which starts the three main questlines, Starfall Street, Path of Legends, and Victory Road, you will gain access to The Teal Mask DLC.
If you have gotten past this point in the base game or have even finished Scarlet or Violet’s main storyline, you’ll gain immediate access to the DLC and receive the call from Jacq as soon as you load into your save.
However, if you do want to start a brand new save to enjoy the DLC, it is entirely possible.
You can easily breeze through the opening of the game, where you get your starter Pokemon, battle Nemona, rescue the legendary, meet Arven, and reach Mesagoza in an hour or two if you know what you’re doing.
Of course, it is worth noting that to access the second part of the DLC, The Indigo Disk, you need to have completed the entire Scarlet or Violet story.
