Fortunately, it couldn’t be easier to mute other players in your lobby or even mute yourself if you don’t fancy talking to anyone.
How to Mute Other Players in MW2
To mute other players in Modern Warfare 2, you’ll need to head to the audio settings either in the main menu or in a match and switch off Voice Chat.
If you’re not a fan of hearing other players boast about their achievements or complain when they lose, then muting the chat is probably for the best. To do this, simply follow these instructions:
- In the main menu or during a match `press either the Options (PlayStation), Menu Button (Xbox), or F3 (or simply select the settings menu at the top on PC)
- Select Audio from the list of options
- Scroll down slightly until you find Voice Chat
- To mute absolutely everyone, including friends and your party, toggle the Voice Chat setting off
- To mute everyone but your friends and party, select the Game Voice Channel setting and turn it to Party Only or Friends Only
You can also mute players either in the lobby or in-game. To do so, simply follow these steps:
- Enter a game lobby by selecting any multiplayer mode
- While in the lobby, hit L2 (PS & Xbox) or 1 (or click the Mute All button on PC) and you’ll mute all players
- If you’re in-game, then simply open the scoreboard by either pressing the Touchpad (PlayStation), View Button (Xbox), or Tab (PC)
- Then either press Square (PlayStation), X (Xbox) or click Mute All (PC) to mute everyone
- Alternatively, you can select a player (using the D-Pad on Console and Right Click on PC) and click Mute Player to mute them

How to Turn Off Voice Chat in MW2
If you want to play in a multiplayer lobby, but don’t fancy everyone hearing you, then all you need to do is go to the Audio options and toggle Voice Chat off and Mute Yourself When Connecting on.
This will completely mute you and prevent your microphone from automatically turning on whenever you jump into a game. To toggle these options, just follow these steps:
- In the main menu or during a match press either the Options (PlayStation), Menu Button (Xbox), or F3 (or simply select the settings menu at the top on PC)
- Select Audio from the list of options
- Scroll down slightly until you find Voice Chat
- Toggle the Voice Chat setting to Off
- Then, scroll down slightly until you find Channels
- Change the Mute Yourself When Connecting setting to On
