Adding the Draupnir Spear is vital during Kratos’ journey in God of War Ragnarok – here’s how to unlock it, as well as how to use it and the best Runic Attacks.
While the Blades of Chaos and the Leviathan Axe are both incredible weapons to use in Ragnarok, it’s always great to have another weapon. Thankfully, we have the Draupnir Spear making its debut.
You’ll need to know how you can add the Draupnir Spear to your arsenal though before you can use it in battles.
How to Unlock Draupnir Spear in God of War Ragnarok
The Draupnir Spear is unlocked towards the end of the Forging Destiny mission in God of War Ragnarok. During this mission, Kratos and Brok will travel to find ‘The Lady’ who will forge the Draupnir Spear.
This mission mainly takes place in Svartalfheim, the Realm of Dwarves. It’s an unmissable event and is not hidden somewhere.
If you’re wondering how this weapon fairs compared to the Blades or the Axe, here are the stats for the Draupnir Spear.
Before embarking on this mission, we recommend upgrading the Blades of Chaos using Chaos Flames.

After the Draupnir Spear is made, you’ll be able to use it like any other weapon in the game. However, for more detailed instructions, we’re going to go into how to use this god-killing weapon.
How to Use Draupnir Spear in God of War Ragnarok
Kratos’ Draupnir Spear is a neutral-based weapon that balances close and long-range attacks. Rather than an element, it focuses on applying stun to enemies. Here is the control scheme for the Draupnir Spear:
- Down D-Pad: Equip Draupnir Spear
- R1: Light Attack
- R2: Heavy Attack
- L2 + R1: Spear Throw
- L2 + R2: Wind Blast (skill can replace with Gale Force)
- Triangle: Detonate thrown Spears
- (Skill) L1 + Triangle: Activate Maelstrom
- L1 + R1: Light Runic Attack
- L1 + R2: Heavy Runic Attack
Without the Spear Arsenal line of skills, the Draupnir Spear can have five active spears at any time, all of which will detonate when pressing Triangle.

You’ll need to get used to this weapon as this is required for the upcoming Garm boss fight in God of War Ragnarok.
Best Light and Heavy Runic Attack for Draupnir Spear
Here are the best Runic Attacks for Kratos’ Draupnir Spear:
- Light Runic: Huldra Charge
- Heavy Runic: Artillery of the Ancients
The Huldra Charge can deal damage, stun, and runic to an enemy, while also siphoning the element they’re afflicted with. This means if you swap from your Blades of Chaos and then use this skill, your Draupnir Spear will deal fire damage.
As for the Artillery of the Ancients attack, this will cause a barrage of Draupnir Spears to land on enemies from the sky. It deals decent damage and is great for crowd control.
You’re closer to the end of the game when you’ve unlocked this weapon, but find out how long God of War Ragnarok is.
