To get Alohomora, the unlocking charm, in Hogwarts Legacy, you must progress the main story until you get to The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament. This is a main story quest around 5 hours into the game.

During this quest, the Hogwarts caretaker Gladwin Moon teaches you Alohomora so you can get through a locked door into the Hogwarts Faculty Tower.

  • Work your way through the mission by sneaking using Disillusionment to collect the other two Demiguise Moons
    • These are clearly marked on your minimap, so should be easy to get, provided you have some patience to walk by the teachers and prefects while they aren’t looking
      • One Demiguise is in the Prefects’ Bathroom, and the other is in the Hospital Wing
  • Return to Gladwin Moon to end this quest
  • Once you complete The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament, you can roam around Hogwarts and the open world to unlock any level 1 locks with Alohomora

UPDATE: This new trick will save you tons of time with Alohomora as you open every lock in Hogwarts Legacy!

However, to unlock every lock in the game, you will need to upgrade your Alohomora Spell to level 3. Although, unlike all of the other spells in Hogwarts Legacy, you do not use talent points to upgrade Alohomora.

If you’re unlocking chests for rare loot, make sure you have space in your inventory. If you’re struggling for space, make sure to upgrade how much gear you can carry in Hogwarts Legacy!

  • To complete the minigame and unlock the lock, you must move both the green and red sparks into positions that turn the gears
    • The left analog stick moves the green spark, and the right analog stick moves the red spark
  • Slowly rotate both analog sticks until you see the gears move
    • The green spark controls the gears in the bottom right
    • The red spark controls the gears in the center
  • Once you have found the spark position that rotates a set of gears, keep the corresponding analog stick held in that direction to keep the gears moving
    • Then, get the other set of gears rotating using the other analog stick to move the other spark
  • Finally, hold both analog sticks in the correct places, and the lock should open!

While you’ll be able to unlock locked chests using Alohomora, there is a much creepier kind of chest that has another method to open. Find out how to unlock the Eyeball Chests in Hogwarts Legacy so you can get plenty of gold!
