The launch day for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S is just around the corner. Now, fans need to know how and when they can get hold of the next-gen consoles.
Given Sony's recent announcement that the PlayStation 5 will only be available online, retailers are adapting their launch day plans. Thankfully, Walmart is one of the first to announce how it's handling the launch dates.
It appears that the retailer is predicting some real demand from anxious gamers on release day. As such, the next-gen consoles will be available all throughout the launch date.
Unless, that is, you're an Xbox fan.
How to Get an Xbox Series X/S From Walmart on Launch Day
Those who want to purchase an Xbox Series X or S on November 10 may find it difficult. That's not to say that Walmart doesn't have stock, however.
The company will be selling its stock of Xbox Series X/S on launch day, beginning at 12 PM ET. From there, fans can select the console they want, pay, and select either online shipping or collect in-store.
Despite Microsoft not announcing a similar online-only exclusivity at this point, Walmart will have no Xbox consoles in store. All Xbox Series X/S sales will be exclusive to online for Walmart, at least.
How to Get a PS5 From Walmart on Launch Day
PlayStation fans have a little more of a chance to get a PS5 from Walmart on launch day. Whether this is due to more stock of the console or simply more demand is unclear.
Either way, Walmart confirms that it will be selling the PS5 at 12 PM, 3 PM, 6 PM, or 9 PM ET. Interestingly, the site appears to be restocking every few hours, allowing sales to go out in waves.
Some users believe that the use of 'or' may indicate that Walmart is yet to choose one of those time slots. This would be a confusing move on the company's part, however.
Having multiple launches, each with their own stock, is a good way to help players get their PS5 on launch day. It also helps avoid fans all arriving for their console at once.
Hopefully, these two launch dates aren't plagued by the same scalper bots that other major releases encountered. If they are, many fans will be unhappy with Sony making PlayStation 5 launch day sales online only.
Major retailer Target has already confirmed its plans for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S launch day. That said, more details may soon be dropping from all stores with more exact release times.
