How to Enable 120 FPS / 120Hz on Xbox Series X

Enabling 120 FPS on your Xbox Series X couldn’t be easier, here’s how you can do it!

Before we get started, you need to own a 120Hz refresh device. Whether you use a monitor or a TV to play games, a 120Hz-enabled screen is required.

You also need an HDMI 2.1 cable to be able to use 120Hz at 4K. Otherwise, it will be limited to 1080p at 120 FPS with an HDMI 2.0 cable,

If you own a 120Hz device, turn on your Xbox Series X, sign in, and make sure you’re on the home screen!

Here’s how to turn on 120 FPS on your Series X console:

  1. Press the Home button on your Xbox controller
  2. Head to the Profile & System tab and click Settings
  3. You should already be on the General tab. If not, head to that tab!
  4. Navigate to the TV & Display options and click on it
  5. Now, head to the Refresh Rate drop down, select it
  6. Finally, select the 120Hz option.

When you first do this, your screen will go black for a few seconds while it changes. A pop-up message will ask if you want to keep this refresh rate. Go ahead and select yes!
